I'm feeling left out.

Alena's doing great! 14lbs, 26" long, and still nursing like crazy!

Is anyone else getting pestered about solids? MIL wants me to feed Alena
turkey and mashed potatoes at Christmas. (It's not happening!)

We're all doing great here!
How about the rest of you?

There you are! I was expecting to see you in the 5 month roll call,
glad all is well!

Default 4-month roll call.

what's wrong with food for a 4 month old? i seem to read that everyone is
anti-food and proud of it.

i also have a 4 month old...well - she'll be 5 months in 2 weeks and is
20lbs, wearing 9-12 mo already.
she has slept through the night for the last few months but started waking 2
times during the night this past week. about a few weeks ago i started
introducing cereal, she seemed interested but i wasn't pushing it because
that's pretty early. my first DS started around that age too. anyway- she
didn't have any reactions to the rice so i started oatmeal - just a little
every few days.

well- this past week she has been lickin' her chops when me & DH eat, she
lunges at the food - she tryed to grab bread from my hubby (she was sitting
on his lap) ! also - her nursings have been longer and then she spits up.
we decided the poor kiddie must be hungry. last night about 6 i gave her a
bowl of rice cereal - pretty thick too. she ate 3 tbls worth and was soooo
into it!! then...she slept the nightfrom 9ish (usual time) till 7 - nursed
and slept till 9.

i am started her on a feeding schedual now. i really think she's ready for
food and i don't think it will affect her nursing. my DS was bf till 18.5
months. he just sort of stopped slowly then quit.i am looking forward to
sleeping the night again and she seems more content. she ate her big bowl of
oatmeal this morning )

so - someone let me know if this is inapropriate for a 4.5 month old and if
so, why?

AwensMom
I'm not sure how big she is last month she was 12lbs and 23in, She is
taller now and has very long legs. I can't beleive how fast she has grown.
Will find out how big she is next month at Dr. When she was 2 m she had
bronchitis and the only way I got her to take her medicine was in cereal
(after trying everything), since then I have been giving her about a tbs
before bed, I just started giving her alittle in the morning. I wanted her
to start eating a little cereal anyway, since she won't take a bottle (tried
ever brand, size and flow), cereal means someone else can feed her so I can
leave the house for a little while with out feeling like I have left her to
starve. She sits up by her self for a few seconds, until she sees something
she wants and lunges at it. Starting to push her self around with her legs
and can hold her self up on her arms, but gets mad because she hasn't
figured out that she needs to do both at the same time and smooshes her
face.
Loves to laugh and giggle and sometimes growl at everything and especially
loves to copy and be copied. Her gums are hard (my poor nipples) and seem to
be very sore some days, I think she will have her first teeth early. She
sleeps for about 8pm to 8am, sometimes is up for an hour at 10 after diaper
change before I bring her to bed with me, usually has 2-3 feedings during
the night but doesn't wake up. Takes 3, 45min to 2 hour, naps during the
day. On days when her mouth hurts sometimes she will start crying in her
sleep, but if I rub her back for a few mins she is fine. Somedays I don't
think I could possibly Love her more, but the next day I do.
Didn't mean to go on so long. Sorry about that

Moo was born on the 8th June, so is that 2 weeks before Alena? Not
much in it, he was 2 weeks early anyway!

The World Health Organisation recommends that 'to achieve optimal
growth, development and health, infants should be exclusively
breastfed for the first six months of life'.

All babies are different though, and these recommendations change all
the time. Personally I don't think Moo is ready for solids, he can't
sit up and he has a strong tounge thrust reflex still.

i guess they are. interestingly, someone else started a thread asking
similar questions about feeding babies early. My babies are jumbo and my DD
sits up well and acts like she'd be the happiest kid around if she could
just get her hands on a porkchop! haha

oh well - i guess that's why their so no Care & Feeding manual.

I was hoping that the placenta would turn out to be an instruction
manual. A manufacturers guarantee woudnt go amiss either :-)

Personally I am against feeding Moo before 6 months becuase all around
me people have allergies and IBS. If waiting until 6 months means he
doenst have any of that then its worth a go. He's not huge and he's
not hungry, though he'd like to be able to put the whole teehing ring
in his mouth at once!

No, we just think that breastmilk IS food!
