Default Inappropriate Teacher's Dress

Have any of you faced a teacher, preschool or otherwise that dressed
inappropriately? Recently, I experienced a situation with "teachers"
(they were actually college students doing a summer intern-job) that
wore low ride, cotton, white, mini skirts, with no slips (do people
still wear slips?). One has a tongue stud. Both wore shirts with their
belly buttons exposed.
It is a delicate situation in that I am related to the owner. I did
say something to the owner, but then let the subject die.
I can say that husband is eager to drive my daughters to the school!

In a previous preschool, the teachers had tattoos, but they covered
them up. I have a tattoo as well, but if I was in a professional
situation, I would cover it up.

OK, since you are posting from Ohio , USA, summer "recently" must have been
last summer (2004). Quotes around "teachers". Hmmm.

Good on you for noting the fabric content , color, cut, and lack of
undergarments . eyeroll

One has a tongue stud.

So?

Both wore shirts with their
belly buttons exposed.

So?

How did you know thay had tattoos?

Hahah. You're a friggin troll, so these teachers must be paragons of virtue
in comparison.

Why such over analysis of my post?

First of all, summer does not start on a special day in just Ohio. It
starts the same day in all of the Northern Hemisphere.

Most colleges have started their summer breaks. These girls are
working their summer jobs. Shall we call it a spring break or a spring
job just because it is not summer yet? @@

These college-aged girls are not teachers, as they are not certified or
degreed. I think a more proper term for them would be teacher's
aides.

Yes I made note of what they were wearing. If it did not make an
impression on me, I would not be posting about it.

Belly button shirts, and tongue studs are unprofessional, and
inappropriate. The tongue studs can interfere with annunciation, and
these teachers need to role model proper speech patterns.

I know my daughters' previous teachers had tattoos because they
showed my daughters their tattoos when the subject of my tattoo was
brought up.

I hardly see how this post can be considered trolling, as I did not
post in a body art newsgroup. The subject matter is not controversial.

Colleges get out in May, so this could well be happening this summer.

Quotes around "teachers". Hmmm.

They appear to be college students helping out at a pre-school. Calling
them teachers may well be overstating things.

What's your problem? She feels the attire is inappropriate, and so
she described it.

One has a tongue stud.

So?

So, she doesn't like it.

Both wore shirts with their

What difference does this make?

I have a tattoo as well, but if I was in a professional
situation, I would cover it up.

And here is your answer. She has a tattoo. The teachers probably
noticed it and it started a conversation.

Why is she a troll? I don't think I'd be crazy about women running
around my children's pre-school in skimpy and/or sexually suggestive
clothing. I've seen the kind of dress she describes -- poolside? Sure.
At the mall? Okay. At my kids school? Well, it hasn't happened
to me, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. But I don't think expecting
my children's teachers to dress professionally is a trollish attitude.

ok.... is there a stated dress code? if not, well...
what kind of dress do you expect from college students doing
summer work in a daycare? do you really expect them to go out
& buy "professional" dress for a situation where they are
playing with small kids?
also, tongue studs don't cause elocution problems if they are
put in correctly. it does drive me buggy when someone can't
resist playing with thier tongue stud constantly, but that's a
seperate issue. i had no problems hiring people with body mods
when i worked in a professional situation, as long as they
didn't fiddle with them or they didn't have obscene tattoos in
visible locations.

why is being related to the owner making this a more delicate
situation? or do you not pay for the daycare? i can see not
whining if the care is free...

I can say that husband is eager to drive my daughters to
the school!

how sad.
guys that don't look are probably dead anyway
ok, maybe i'm just not insecure, but i really don't care if my
SOs are looking at other girls. what's the big deal?

Ok...so I can kind of understand the concern with appropriate dress.
Most schools afterall, have dress codes. I'm not sure how I would feel
about the piercings. If it is an issue for that particular teacher (i.e
there is difficulty in understanding what she says), then I can
understand that. FWIW, I once met someone (professionally) that I'd
talked to on the phone several times. Until I met her in person, I had
no idea that she had a tongue stud. For some people it isn't an issue.

Your comment regarding your husband though leads me to believe that
there's more to your complaints than you have fully described. If it
bothers you that he looks at other women then I suggest you have a
long, meaningfull talk with him. It might help.

Yep. Several of my DD's full-time afterschool teachers dress like this.
These are not interns, but college-educated women in their first
full-time teaching position.

My DD's all-time favorite afterschool teacher has a tattoo and belly
peircing. She dresses to show them off, with ultra low rider jeans. My
girls are not preschoolers; they are preteens who are at the age where
they are influenced by the role models around them.

At first, it did bug me, especially since my DD's worship the ground
this woman walks on. But, then I got to know this teacher, and I could
see why the worshipped her. Despite her dress, she is a fantastic
teacher and all around wonderful human being. A really neat person with
solid values that I approve of, and I am happy to have her around my
kids and influencing them. I just don't approve of the way she dresses!
But, I'm not about to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The girls asked me about the tattoo and belly button peircing, and so I
used it as a teaching occasion to impart my own wisdom and viewpoint.
We've talked about it a lot over the years, specifically how you
*cannot* and *should not* judge a person by the clothes they wear!!

We've also talked a lot about how fashion is fun, but fashion should be
removable, because fashion changes quickly and that's the whole idea.
So go ahead and dye your hair, perhaps, but think really hard before
you make a permanent fashion change like a tattoo or a body peircing.
