I rinse off the food. Our dishwasher doesn't have the disposable option on
it.

Here's one thing I have always found funny. Some people get grossed out
by the water. I don't. If it's dirty, I change it.

Surely people rinse. I fill one sink with hot soapy water, which gets

I don't know about other people, but I definitely do. I mentioned that

I'm curious how many put your dishes in the dishwasher. Do you rinse
the

dishes before you put them in? I know some people who practically was all
their dishes before they even put them in the dishwasher. To me, if you
can't just put them in there, what's the point? But see, I've never had a
dishwasher (besides my sexy husband that is), and I haven't operated one.
I
can see rinsing them off quickly and placing them in, but good heavens, if
you have to break out the dishsoap or wipe 'em off you might as well be
washing them by hand it seems!

Ohhh, this is a huge peeve for me! My DH is anti dish-soaking, and he will
put things with food crusted on them into the dishwasher. They don't always
come clean, and then require scrubbing. I will rinse dishes as soon we're
done eating, and soak if necessary. And my dishwasher is only 3 years old,
so I don't think its an old vs. new dishwasher type of issue. Its not
magic, just hot water and soap shooting around.

We never rinse. I just *won't* rinse before putting things in. I agree
about the point of having a dishwasher being to avoid that sort of
stuff. If things are particularly dirty, I run the machine on a rinse
cycle first and then a regular cycle. We've never had a problem other
than the odd thing here and there (usually resulting from something
flipping over). We use a good detergent. I tried every one on the
market before I settled on one that works well for us. (the only
downfall is that it leaves a residue behind, even with some sort of
rinse aid)

What do you use? I use Cascade liquid/gel. My crockpot frequently comes
out with food still on it. I wonder if its the way I position it in the
dishwasher.

At this point, I have the test pilot's attitude to childbirth-any delivery
you walk away from with a living, healthy baby was a good delivery, no
matter what it took to get you there.

Amen to that.

Only to a degree. The mother needs to also walk away living and
healthy as well. And I'm including emotional health.

Nan, I responded to this thread quickly, but of course when I thought about
your situation I knew I'd be traumatised by it, whether my baby was healthy
or not. I don't think Donna was referring to your particular experience,
which was IMO pretty horrific, but more the general cavalier attitudes to
pregnancy and delivery that one strikes in RL. When I hear women griping
about stretch marks, morning sickness, a little pain or a few stitches, I
want to wallop them one and tell them just how much worse it could be. Of
course, as anyone who was here in mid 2002 will point out, I was like that
too once :-) Oh for a little naivety...

I know she wasn't referring to my experience. I wasn't really
referring to only my experience. My response was more to say that no
matter what oneself has experienced, another may have been profoundly
affected by a like experience, and we should always keep that in mind.

I have never put a crock pot in the dishwasher-didn't know you could. Do
you put it in upside down or at an angle?
