Nigeria court seeks 3 arrests in Pfizer drug trial
Mon 24 Dec 2007, 15:13 GMT
http://africa.reuters.com/top/news/usnBAN454820.html

KANO, Nigeria (Reuters) - A Nigerian court on Monday ordered the
arrests of three of the defendants in a trial over a drug test
conducted by Pfizer in 1996 which Nigerian authorities say killed 11
children and left others disabled.

The northern state of Kano is suing Pfizer for $2 billion in damages
and pressing criminal charges over the testing of the antibiotic
Trovan on children in Kano during a meningitis epidemic that killed
12,000 children in six months.........

.......Lawyers for Pfizer were present but Judge Shehu Atiku complained
that individual defendants should have been there too and issued
arrest warrants against three of them.

Pfizer is arguing in a separate process in a Lagos court that the
defendants were not properly served criminal summons and therefore
were not technically charged or obliged to appear in court......"

12,000 compared to 11.

I'll take the 12,000.

AltThink 101, when EBM tries to save 12,000 lives, and loses 11 in the
process, bash EBM to prove the efficacy of AltMed.

Ever see meningitis? Ever see a child damaged by it?

If the antibiotic was effective, they would have lived.

Meningitis is deadly.

Yes, I have seen a child damaged by Meningitis. I have also seen a
child just as sick by Rocky Mountain spotted fever from a tiny little
tick. I have also seen children Vaccine injured who were in worst
condition than both Meningitis and Rocky mountain spotted fever.

The way you guys defend Pharma, is just crazy.

Sure, There are drugs on the market like penicillin that is great. But
some of the crap is just that, Crap!

I think there should be laws in place where if a Pharmceutical company
knowingly uses an unsafe drug and it is proven that they knew it would
cause more harm then good, The people in charge should be on death
row. Do you have a problem with that kind of law?

ASSume for a moment that they were. In that case they were still
saved by Pfizer. If they weren't guinea pigs, they were still saved
by Pfizer.
A 99.9% cure rate is pretty fantastic. What is all the rage about?

The facts are what defend Pfizer. Try using facts instead of
misdirected self-loathing.

They saved 12,000 lives and lost 11. Does that sound like more harm
was done than good? Is 99.9% success so terrible? Does 99.9% success
justify a witch-hunt?
