Cory in the House is another Disney channel show with a smart boy character,
and while Cory isn't an athlete, he's a lot farther from the "nerd"
stereotype than Cody is.

I am just wondering!

My DS (almost 7yr old) likes to watch re runs of
I carly and Drake and Josh, so my 4yr old DD watches
those with him too. I think most of the episodes are okay, except
a few which contains some light kissing.

What do you guys think? My DW thinks they are
not suitable for kids. My main problem is that
they portray girls as smart and boys as dumb.
Zach and Cody is okay, but that comes only
on some weekends on ABC (at least here in Calgary)
What's wrong with kissing?
Guess, its a cultural thing.
I find the Suite life of Zack and Cody creepy, because of the boys
leering over much older girls.
Yes, you are right but at least one of the boys is smart.

BTW, I kind of don't get it why smart one has to be dorky all
the time.
Can't an athlete be smart too in TV land.

I usually have better things to have bother me than children's TV
shows... But maybe that's just me...
By Calgary, do you mean Calgary AB? I'm fairly confident that kissing is
fairly common around Calgary... Unless, of course, there's another
Calgary in some far place.

Yes, it is Calgary, AB. Yes, I do hear that there are kissing corners in
elementary schools. I meant I don't like to see public affections.

Haha howdy, neighbour.
I think, then, that it's not so much a 'cultural' thing, but maybe just a
personal thing for you. I'm not one for public displays of affection, for
the most part. I do, however, have no problems with a kiss, hug, holding
hands, etc., but one thing that I can't stand is, basically, grabbing
eachother, people just about mutating their faces together, etc...

If I let TV shows bother me, I'd spend all day being bothered...
Spongebob REALLY irks me... It's annoying how certain lines - or screams,
whatever - are repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated and
apparently that's supposed to be funny. Wonder Pets bugs me at times -
that duck that doesn't speak properly...
DS likes the childrens' shows as well.

My DS and DW used to watch Treehouse, they still likes some programs there.
Now DS prefer YTV.

DS doesn't really care much for Treehouse and definitely prefers YTV. He
kind of grew out of the Treehouse a while back, but then again, I find that
the shows there are aimed more towards toddlers/preschoolers, not so much
elementary and up. I've still also found that DS will be watching other
channels over YTV/Family channel/etc., and it's often things like Discovery
channel. Even with his choice of fun games on the computer, though, it's
rarely ones I don't care for (like shooting and fighting games, I'm really
not liking those so much) and lately has been going for things like Mario
and similar games (on the computer or otherwise) so I really can't complain
too much and I really don't make a huge deal about it.
A couple years back it was Grand Theft Auto. I put a very fast halt to that
game being played by my now ex when the kids were around. And then found
more appropriate, yet somewhat similar, games for DS - like Crazy Taxi,
Mario Kart, Cruisin' USA and so on. I've never really had an issue to
really worry about with the TV shows or movies, for the most part, as that's
not a battle I choose to take on (at this point)

He'll be 8 years old in 2 weeks now.

I think it's good for kids to see a bit of public affection. It might be
"icky" to them while they are young but it's healthy to show affection and
shows children that it's a good and normal part of a relationship. I'm not
talking about when there's people making out, though, that's totally
different. I always think it's sweet to see elderly couples kiss in public

That's exactly what I was thinking... I actually do find myself smiling when
there's an older (or even old!) couple holding hands or something... I think
that's great when it's small little things like that - people showing they
love eachother, but not going way overboard with it. I'd be just as
disgusted to see a couple in their 80s making out on the bus stop bench as I
would a couple in their 20s.

I couldn't agree more. I think it's important that kids see that kissing
is ok, that holding hands is ok and not something to go
"ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww" about.

A woman I know insists on no kissing what so ever in front of her kids,
her husband is allowed to kiss her lightly on the cheek, but she does
let the kids watch horror movies "because they know it's not real" I'm
talking Alien vs. Predator and suchlike. But in an actually kid friendly
movie she holds their eyes shut if there's kissing! I mean kissing not
slobbering all over each other rolling on the ground making strange
noises. I found that very very disturbing. Her kids at the time were 3
and 5.

My boys watch some of that type of thing.

They watch regular cartoons (which are worse then the tween stuff half
the time) and are into shows like Myth Busters, Dirty Jobs, stuff from
the History and Discovery Channels. They like the wild life stuff or
that one about Extreme animals.

I guess I'm OK with it. I'd get rid of the TV entirely if I had my way.
Actually I did for awhile but now dh is getting his way and we have it
again, lol.

As long as my kids are watching something that challenges them I don't mind. I watched a lot of TV when I was a kid and it expanded my creativity.
