Playing the Name Game Again (x-posted)

I've always loved the name Monique, Keep in mind it will be pronounced Moan-ique and not Mon-ique in the US (my mom's pet peeve - lol). which goes fairly well with Glasco. Colette is also a nice French name. Marjorie I like Colette. I like Colette too....although my parents have a set of very close friends whose bassett hound is named Colette I can just imagine what their reaction might be if we chose that name. Not that it matters though! Sharon Mom to James 6.2.00 EDD #2 5 December |

DH really wants to give her a French name (so I guess that is a starting point); he is of Scottish/French heritage, our last name is the French spelling of a Scottish surname/placename (Glasco) and he wants to honor that. So.....any suggestions? I have perused some internet sites, but nothing so far has seemed to jump out at me. TIA! Sharon Mom to James 6.2.00 EDD #2 5 December Parenthood's website gave over 200 French girls names. Amalie/Amelie Angelique Annette Antoinette Brigette Camille Chantal Francine Jacqueline My fave - Josephine Margaux Simone Camille is very pretty - goes well with our last name, and someone else also mentioned Brigette, which I am growing more attached too. I think I like the other spelling of Margaux (Margot) but that rhymes with the pronounciation of Glasco, so its a no go. I also like Josephine, but it might be a mouthful with the surname too. ... I don't know that anyone else would think this, but if you're in the US (which I think you are), that name might be a little too close to Columbine. Maybe it's just me, but that's the first thing I thought of when I saw it. I can see why you'd see that when you *read* it. When you *hear* it said, though, they don't sound very much the same (at least to my ear). I didn't even consider that association, though, simply because I have another association for the name already! -- Be well, Barbara (Julian [6], Aurora [4], and Vernon's [20mo] mom) This week's special at the English Language Butcher Shop: "Rejuvinate your skin." -- Hydroderm ad Daddy: You're up with the chickens this morning. Aurora: No, I'm up with my dolls! All opinions expressed in this post are well-reasoned and insightful. Needless to say, they are not those of my Internet Service Provider, its other subscribers or lackeys. Anyone who says otherwise is itchin' for a fight. -- with apologies to Michael Feldman |

Maybe where you live, but I've got a friend named Monique, and we call her Mon-ique. I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to her as Moan-nique. She'd probably kill them. :-) Of course, her mother and father are both Parisian and kind of scary and we learned how to pronounce her name from them. Sharon wibbled Oooohhhh... I like both of these, especially Jocelyn, because it is not all that common, but doesn't have the associated problems of spelling and pronouniation. I also like the idea of the Scottish spelling of Isobel; DH might go for that. Jocelyn originated as a male name, incidentally. Isobel is a lovely name: there's also Ishbel, an ultra-Scottish version g. I also like the name Jacqueline, pronounced the French way...Jack-leen. And I LOVE the way the French pronounce Caroline (Caa-ro-leen). Marjorie aka Margaurite en francis |

I also like the name Jacqueline, pronounced the French way...Jack-leen. That is my name (Zha-cleen, btw, not a J sound). Unfortunately my middle name, also French, is a lot harder to say and spell so I don't tend to recommend it to people! Jac |

Maybe it was spelled differently? |
