Creative solution for adolescent droopy drawers syndrom (STMD)
STMD=sly things moms do
Like many boys his age, Henry is into wearing his jeans low with a generous portion of underwear showing. It doesn't help that his stocking stuffers this year were designer boxers that he's proud of. Sigh. He got in trouble often at home for having them too low and twice this past year at school for the same thing. Finally, I'd had it. I bought the most hideous, generic tightie-whitie underwear I could find, with absolutely no designer listed on the label. I showed them to him and let him know that if he's ever in trouble at school for this again, or ever refuses to pull his pants up when requested at home, the tightie-whities would be all he'd have for underwear and his designer underwear would become dust rags. Problem solved ;-) -Dawn Mom to Henry, 12 |

You are my parenting idol.
My son also sufferes from DD syndrome, mostly because he's so skinny that we can't find pants long enough to fit his tiny 26" waist. So in order to buy pants long enough, they are just too wide. Plus, he won't wear anything 'ghetto' so his jeans of choice are carpenter jeans. And like Henry, he's big into cool boxers and hasn't worn a pair of tighty whitys since kindergarten, when he discovered the joys of silk boxers (I DID NOT buy them, they were a gift!). I think I'll head out to Target for some TWs now. I love this ploy. Marjorie |

I tell you, there are times I've been tempted to just grab a boys pants and give a quick tug -- it would take so little to get them to drop all together. For whatever reason, my son never got into that particular fashion statement. -- Children won't care how much you know until they know how much you care |

I love it!! Great plan, mom!
I actually saw a teen lose his pants while crossing the road a while back. He was wearing those baggy, low slung pants, and was carrying a bunch of stuff so he couldn't yank his pants up as he walked. It was a busy street, and his pants got lower and lower and he was waddling and shuffling, and down they went entirely before he reached the other side. Hilarious! My oldest is 14, and while he likes loose pants, he hasn't gotten into the uber-baggy low slung look as yet. Lets pray he gives that style a bypass. Its totally idiotic looking. On the other hand, I have had big arguments with him about appropriate dress for certain venues and occasions, since he seems to think sweat pants are okay for wearing to bar mitzvahs, weddings, fancy restaurants etc. Argh. I remember when my brother was a teen 20 years back, a local style was to wear men's work boots unlaced, which meant they slopped around on your feet and dragged as you walked. My father got totally fed up, since having them drag with every step meant expensive boots that should last for years would wear out in a matter of a couple of months, so I guess stupid fads are nothing new.
