About Guest Speaker:

Rita Laws, Ph.D., has been a short-term foster parent. She is the
single
mother of 11 children, 8 of whom arrived via adoption at many
different
ages, and 3 who were born to her. Rita's doctoral dissertation
explored the
types and benefits of special needs adoption support services (1995,
Research Abstracts, Volume 20, Number 5, 1995, available from UMI, Ann
Arbor, MI 800-343-5299) and her findings were published as a chapter
in the
book:
Clinical and Practice Issues in Adoption: Bridging the Gap Between
Adoptees
Placed as Infants and as Older Children, edited by Groza and
Rosenberg,
published 1998 by Praeger, Westport, CT., www.greenwood.com. Chapter
5:"The
History, Elements, and Ongoing Need for Adoption Support."

She has written hundreds of articles about fostering, adoption and
parenting, and helped develop many adoption-related web sites and
online
courses for parents.
