Default spanking children

I think children should be spanked. However, only for major
misbehavior. The punishment, a spanking, should be given in love. If
punishment by timeouts or the taking away of privileges can be given in
love, than why can't a spanking be given in love.

A spanking is not a beating. A beating is where you injure a child and
leave welts and bruises. A spanking is where you hurt a child's bottom
for a short period of time. A spanking should be five hard slaps to
the bottom with the child crying loudly during the spanking. After all
a spanking is supposed to hurt. The crying should last for about three
to five minutes with the pain also being over at the end of five
minutes.

Why?

However, only for major
misbehavior.

Why only that?

The punishment, a spanking, should be given in love.

If I love you I can hit you to show it?

If
punishment by timeouts or the taking away of privileges can be given in
love, than why can't a spanking be given in love.

Well, because it's really hard to reconcile hitting someone you love
with actually loving them?

A spanking is not a beating.

It seems that even legal and scientific authorities have a problem
determining with any accuracy exactly where the line is between the two.

A beating is where you injure a child and
leave welts and bruises.

Yet these are legal in some areas, and case law supports it. Take
paddling in schools for instance.

A spanking is where you hurt a child's bottom
for a short period of time.

Two points: One, this is not established in law clearly enough for there
to be few instances of parents going over the line....they do so all to
often, and two, "spanking" is a generic term for Corporal Punishment
that includes many more kinds of hitting, pain, and humiliation than
just aiming for a child's bottom for a short period of pain.

A spanking should be five hard slaps to
the bottom with the child crying loudly during the spanking.

Why five? Why not two, or 8? How hard is hard?

If they child refuses to cry do we extend the number, increase the
force, use more often?

After all
a spanking is supposed to hurt.

Yes, that is true. Love is supposed to hurt, right?

The crying should last for about three
to five minutes with the pain also being over at the end of five
minutes.

Children report it hurting for much longer times. Even to the next few
days. Would that be abuse?

Sorry I was unclear in my question. Not "why" should they be spanked
(that's been posted with endless lists and apologies here) but why have
YOU come to think this? That children should be spanked.

At least you stated this as your opinion, rather than as a fact.

However, only for major
misbehavior.

What do you consider major misbehavior, and why do you think spanking is
an appropriate response.

The punishment, a spanking, should be given in love.

Do you believe hitting is an act of love? Do you think being hit is an
act of love? Many individuals who abuse their spouses or partners do
love them. Do you think they are expressing this love when they
hit/hurt their spouses or partners? Perhaps you do. But if you do not,
why do you think hitting the body of a little child in the name of
discipline is an act of love? And why do you not think that the little
child takes away two messages: It's okay to hit those that I love when
they displease me, and it's okay to be hit as long as that person loves
me. It's a great recipe for later domestic assault -- victim and
perpetrator. Research bears this out, by the way.

If
punishment by timeouts or the taking away of privileges can be given in
love, than why can't a spanking be given in love.

One can parent without punishment. That appears to be your problem.

You have a perfect recipe for how to hurt children, and hopefully escape
the eyes of the law. I don't need to see anything more about your
opinion or your regard for children. You've been abundantly clear.

You advocate abuse.
