40w3d ob/gyn appt
Well, another regular ob/gyn appt after having bloody show yesterday...
Urine = fine, some blood from the bloody show/mucus (this is still going on, and my ob/gyn told me it might continue - the same pinkish discharge streaked with blood on occasion) Blood pressure = 100/65 (I was waiting a long time, I almost fell asleep in the waiting room!) Weight = 0 gain, total of 35 lbs Swelling = yes, feet & legs Fundal height = 3 fingers down the rib cage CTG (external foetal monitoring) = normal, no contractions (uggggggggggggghh!!!) After reporting to my ob/gyn what started going on yesterday, she told me I was right to go to the hospital. She also said I should have the NST at the same hospital tomorrow and every second day until I go into labour on my own or until they decide to keep me at the hospital. It's not exactlu convenient (45 minutes ride to the hospital, and DH already spending 4 days off from his personal time off leave, which led to a discussion with his employer later on today), but it has to be done - my ob/gyn won't be in until Tuesday. She said the doctor who was on call yesterday will be on call tomorrow, and I hope that's true because he was really nice and gentle, and already knows "my case". She said that it's normal for the bloody show to continue and to be losing the mucus plug gradually; now we just have to wait for the contractions to start, or for the water to break. Dilation = 1 cm (same as yesterday, and same as a week ago) Effacement = 25% (same as 5 weeks ago) The annoying thing is that I still feel fine! Not experiencing any back pain, any discomfort, etc! This is *not* the time for a boring appointment, we wanted things to start happening!!! DH had a chat over the phone with his boss (remember, he works abroad) and his boss was not pleased with the situation. DH already stayed at home Monday morning, yesterday and today, and he will stay at home tomorrow in order to go with me to the hospital - we are kind of hoping things might progress and we get to go into labour soon, so he doesn't want to go back to work (commuting 3 hours one way) and keep thinking about me and whether I'm in labour yet or not. So, in the end his boss told him he can stay at home on personal-time-off leave for another week (he has about 40 hrs of his personal-time-off leave left). The annoying thing with his boss is that he made it sound like it was somehow my fault I haven't gone into labour yet :-( So apart from worrying about everything else, now I have this time-off business on my mind too... DH promissed me he will be home until Monday October 20th if need be. This is really reassuring, because I really feel like I need him right now. I mean, I'm OK if I'm at home, but I really need him to go to the hospital with me - and he wants to be there so much! You should have seen him at the waiting room today, he was so patient - we were there from 9 am until 12:45 (well, there was a 45 minutes' long break and we went away for breakfast) - there was an emergency situation or something and ob/gyn was very busy. Anyway, enough venting! Tomorrow: NST at the hospital, so I'll keep you updated. Thank you all for well wishes and encouragement :-) Elly EDD: 3 days ago!!! |

WOW Elly,
I really thought that yesterday was the beginning of your labor. You are so patient. Don't worry about DH's boss. Anyway, soon you both are going to be holding your baby and that's the most important thing. Hoping to see your birth announcement soon. Love Nicky |

Sounds frustrating but things will move along soon hopefully. It's amazing how unsympathetic bosses can be. My DH's doesn't understand why DH even wants/needs to be at the birth. Remember, to his boss, you are someone that is standing in the boss's way of having his employee at work. Some of them don't care about what pregnant women go through. Some can't see what the big deal about you having you husband there with you while you go through all of this. I am sure if it got down to the nuts and bolts, the boss doesn't blame for not going into labour. {{{{{{{{{{Elly}}}}}}}}}}}} -- Daye Momma to Jayan "Boy" EDD 11 Jan 2004 See Jayan: http://jayan.topcities.com/ |

Well looks like I am not out of the race yet! Although I do seem like more of a long shot as between us. But what is the medical justification for doing a NST every day? It sounds like a lot of work for you to trudge up there. Thanks for the posting, keep us updated! -- Dagny EDD Elly's EDD |

I haven't had a chance to post much, but I've been thinking of you a lot :-) I will share something that my doula told me (paraphrased)--you won't go into labor until you accept that you will be pregnant *forever* and it will never end! Good luck! Hope the NST goes well and is the only one you end up having ;-) -- Em mama to Lann, 9/21/03 |

"Dagny" ha scritto nel messaggio ink.net... But what is the medical justification for doing a NST every day? It sounds like a lot of work for you to trudge up there. It's standard procedure over here - once you go past your due date (and they were 98% sure it was calculated correctly because we know the date of conception), you have the NST, amnioscopy test and general ob/gyn exam at the hospital every 2nd day (it just so happened that I had my regular ob/gyn appt in between the two hospital appts so I had appts 3 days in the row). I think the major concern is that the level of amniotic fluid might decrease or meconium staining of the amniotic fluid might put the baby in distress. I actually like driving with DH there and back (about 45 minutes each way) - DH was born and grew up there, and we have plenty of friends there, so we go for a visit, a lunch, a walk, and it's a nice change from being at home all the time. Today DH got a bit sentimental and took me to see the house where his parents brought him home from the hospital when he was born ;-) How are you feeling today - any news? Elly EDD: 4 days ago!!! |

Tired, addle minded. Nope, no news. I am enjoying answering the question "when are you due" with "last Monday" just for the reaction. But I'm not rally excited that anything will happen soon. I was born at 41 weeks (first baby), which is right in the middle of normal; my husband was born at 41w5d (first baby), and had all three more siblings come after 41 weeks. The third child had to be induced twice. So genetically I have an average to long cooking roast in the oven. With my providers there are not special concerns really until post-term (42 weeks) assuming weekly checkups look normal. But it's good that you're having fun and can keep us updated that I very well might beat you to pushing! I enjoy your posts very much. -- Dagny |
