Default multiple food allergies

So, DS, who is now 10 months old, has been diagnosed as highly
allergic to milk, peanuts, eggs, wheat and soy. We have a good
allergist, and he commended me for BFing "so lomg" and said I should
keep it up as long as possible. Which is fine by me, but I have to
be on the same diet, and we've made the house and kitchen an allergen
free zone.

My question is, if DH and I go to a nice restaurant, and eat ice cream
or nuts or whatever, how long to I need to wait to nurse him, and do I
need to pump & dump. he sleeps about 12 hours at night, so if i
splurged, there would be a 10 hout clearing period.....maybe?

Thanks
JJ

I agree with Anne. Unfortunately, food like this
is not like medication or alcohol, which is
metabolised more quickly, with a well-known half-
life and such. With a non-dairy diet, for example,
it took us about 3 weeks to clear everything out
of the system and I stayed dairy-free for 14 months
with DS#1 and for 18 months with DS#2.

It's a tough thing to do, especially not eating
any pies during Thanksgiving and Christmas. DH
was nice, though, and stayed on a sympathy diet
with me (he only ate dairy stuff at work). There
are other foods you can eat to substitute: there
are dairy-free chocolate chips, non-dairy margarine,
a few companies make dairy-free brownie mix, sherbet
instead of ice cream.

(After enough time has gone by, you can almost
convince yourself the sherbet tastes like ice
cream...)
