Default weird nipple?

Hi all

I hope i describe this right, as I am having trouble googling it as I don't
really know what I am looking at... I am sure this is a new thing, as in
since I got pg, and that it hasn't been there long...

Ok, just below the actual nipple-bit, but still on the areola, i have what i
can only describle as an extra lump, almost like an extra, very small
nipple...it's not painful, seems to have no opening, like a nipple, and
doesn't seem to contain milk, so it's not like an extra milk duct. It's also
not one of the bumps that occur round the areola, not even in the same
pattern, if you see what I mean.

I was just wondering if this was a common thing, or if I should see the
doctor.

Ta

sounds like it's what is known as montgomery's tubercle, which is a kind of
gland on the areola that released an oily substance, basically like a pore,
if one gets blocked then it can form a painful spot, however if you are at
all concerned you should check with a doctor

cheers

Sounds more like a supernumary nipple to me.

You can have extra nipples! Men can have them too! It's fairly common. I
suspect you may have had it before, but has become more prominant in
pregnancy.

Thanks both for the replies... I have wiki-pedia'd them both... I still
don't exactly know what it is, but it doesn't appear to be secreting
anything. I will ask dh to look at the results too, but I think I will get
it checked out. The only time the area is sore is if I haven't expressed for
a while, but thats more the nipple itself. I think I just hoped it was a
hormone related thing, but I'm not convinced. I would be more convinced on
the supernumary nipple thing if I knew it was always there - but I just
don't remember seeing it there before. But then I wasn't expressing before,
so took less notice. Oh well! I'm rambling!

Thanks again!

Thanks Debbie - "more prominent in pregnancy" was the phrase I think I
needed to hear I want to blame weird bits on the hormones! I'm going to
get it checked, but thanks for the reply!

It doesn't sound like a montgomery's tubercle but more like a supernumary
nipple. I have seen a woman with one of these about a foot lower than her
breast. It is harmless but I would check with your midwife or physician to
be sure.
