Tonsillectomy May Reduce Risk Of Learning Problems POSTED: 5:41 pm PDT September 29, 2006 UPDATED: 7:19 pm PDT September 29, 2006 LOS ANGELES -- Striking research about children's behavior. A tonsillectomy may actually reduce the risk of attention deficit and other learning problems. Researchers also found that some of the kids in the study who did not have ADHD before the study, had it one year later. One theory is that damage done by nighttime breathing problems may be permanent. Fast Fact: Tonsillitis can cause a sore and swollen throat, headache, ear pain and fever. In some cases, enlargement of the tonsils and adenoids can interfere with breathing during sleep. About 263,000 tonsillectomies are performed in the u.s. annually and 142,000 adenoidectomies without tonsillectomy. Researchers have found some children with behavioral problems experience an improvement of symptoms after tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy. more at link. |

Any infection of that magnitude is too close proximity to the brain and the conclusion makes sense. |
