Hi all

Need some advice, since yesterday I have been getting defenate contractions
that are a little painful and stop me in my track for a second or two. They
are not as painful as the real full on thing but are stronger than a braxton
hick. I have felt baby move about but not as much as there has been but
there has been defenate kicks so I am a bit confussed as to whats going on
there, night night I had a trickle of something but not a gush of water or
anything like that so it might of just been a normal but heavier than usual
discharge, I have had thrush for the last week but get this with every
pregnancy and have been treating with canasten cream. My midwife is not at
the surgery until Tuesday and trying to see my doctor is like trying to find
a needle in a hay stack and the hospital is a good half hr away and until
Friday I have not got the petrol to get to hospital anyway due to the past
few weeks financial situaion, this is set to change on Friday though.
Basically im just looking for a reasurance that I am doing the best thing of
just taking it easy until at least Tuesday!!!!

You can't base medical decisions on the cost of gas. If you are concerned
enough to post here, call your OB or midwife and speak with someone. Some
infections can cause premature labor. I don't know how far along you are,
but I'd hate to have you stay home and not do anything because gas is
expensive, and then have something bad happen. Better to borrow some money,
buy gas, and get to the hospital/midwife center and get checked out, even if
everything is just fine.

Hugs.

Huh?

Heavens above April! Find a way to get medical attention petrol or no
petrol. Are you going to make these same decisions once your child has
arrived? There is no way I would delay seeking medical attention because
I wouldn't have the petrol.

Hi guys

I dont think I explained myself properly however I have spoken a midwife at
the hospital and she is happy that I am OK. She said that they are proberbly
just stronger practice contractions and not to worry unless baby stops
kicking for a period of 24hrs, my waters defently go or I have cramp pains
with loss of blood ect. None of which I have and baby has moved today.

I'm guessing you are around full-term? I can never remember - sorry! If
you are at full term then I wouldn't worry about it really. If the
contractions turn into the real thing or your water breaks you won't be able
to wait until Tuesday though so I'd find some way to fill up the car or
another way get to the hospital :-)

If you are not at full term I'd call the doctor or midwife to let them know
what is happening.

Hi Nikki

I am 27 and a bit weeks pregnant now, the contraction thingies have carmed
down a lot and baby kicked alot late last night when I was setterling down
for bed so I am guessing hospital phonecall last night was right and that
they are just stronger practice contractions. I am reletevly relaxed that
everything is OK, I am going to have to keep an eye on myself this evening
though because I took my 2 dogs out for a walk a little while ago and when I
was out I slipped and fell over, lucky I landed quite soft so I think
everything is OK.

You're about 27 weeks. I was about 30 weeks when I started having preterm
labor. My symptoms were strong regular contractions, about every 5-7
minutes. What my doc told me after an initial visit to labor and delivery
was - drink several glasses of water and lie down on my left side. If the
contractions don't stop after an hour, come to L&D. I went from a
hard/high/closed cervix to low/soft/2cm dilated in the first couple of weeks
of preterm labor, but nothing since. However, I am on "modified" bedrest,
which means I am not working and I am laying down alot. Since the change of
not working and taking it a LOT easier, the ctx are much more infrequent. I
was also prescribed vistaril, which I take at the onset of regular ctx to
slow things down, however it makes me very sleepy.

I thought I had my water break initially too. I had crouched down in the
office to pick something up, and when I stood up I had a trickle strong
enough to leak past my pantiliner and go down my leg. Turns out it was
urine! THis has happened a couple of times now. Also, My discharge is
really really have sometimes and I can feel it running out too.

I say, don't panic, but getting checked out initially for a baseline would
be good. On tuesday make sure they check your cervix. And rest and stay
hydrated as much as possible!

Oh jeez - how was I so off! At 27 weeks I'd probably call and report any
regular painful contractions that made me stop in my tracks. I wouldn't
worry about one or two but if they kept coming, I'd call :-)

I'm glad everything is fine now!!
