MySpace.com hysteria lets politicians off easy

http://www.norwichbulletin.com/apps/...1/1014/OPINION

In his movie "Play It Again, Sam," Woody Allen depicts himself as a
nebbish alone on a couch with a young woman who is dressed provocatively
and speaks constantly of her desire for sex. But when the nebbish works
up enough courage to pounce, she throws him off, indignantly demanding,
"What do you think I am?"

That may sum up Connecticut's silly controversy about the popular
"social networking" Internet site MySpace.com, which is under assault by
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, other state attorneys general and
state legislators for facilitating sexual predation against minors. The
officials want to require MySpace and similar sites to get the approval
of parents before letting minors post their personal profiles. The
attorneys general also have compelled MySpace to produce a list of
sexual offenders who have posted their own profiles.

But the politicians might as well seek to outlaw telephones, cars and
roads, earlier innovations of "social networking," which these days is,
after all, often just a polite term for sexual solicitation, what with
so many adolescents flaunting themselves on the Internet as
provocatively as the young woman on the couch in Woody Allen's comedy.
And it all is happening right under the noses of parents.

Or it would be happening under their noses if half the children in the
country had parents. This is the real problem, but it cannot be
discussed by the politicians campaigning against MySpace. For then they
would have to condemn their own constituents.

If Willie Sutton robbed banks because that's where the money was, sexual
predators gravitate to "social networking" sites because that is where
the sexually receptive people are.

And elected officials act as if adolescence has not always been an
obsession with sex, an obsession that can be countered only by parents.
Rather than address the lack of parenting, government has developed
whole industries purporting to replace it.

One of these industries is the force of police who roam the Web sites
impersonating minors. These stings produce so many more arrests than
there are complaints about sexual predators who have succeeded in
meeting minors, that the stings would undermine the MySpace hysteria if
anyone thought much about them. At least it still takes two to tango, as
suggested by what may be Connecticut's two worst cases of predation
against minors via the Internet.

The first was that of the 13-year-old girl who was abandoned by her
parents and placed with an aunt. In search of the love she never got at
home, she developed sexual relationships with men through the Internet.
She was murdered by one of them in 2002 after her aunt dropped her alone
at a shopping mall.

The second was the case of an 11-year-old girl who developed a
relationship with a 23-year-old man via the Internet and, while her
parents slept one night, let him into her house where he molested her.
The man was tracked down and sent to prison, but no one asked if the
girl's parents might have been sleeping a little too soundly.

The problem behind the "social networking" sites has a much bigger
manifestation, but it prompts little comment from Connecticut's
officials: the collapse of the schools in the cities and inner suburbs,
which are being overwhelmed by children who have become incorrigible
from neglect at home, starting with fatherlessness and continuing with
unmarried, unskilled and hapless mothers.

That's where Connecticut's Department of Children and Families comes in.
Like those detectives impersonating minors on the Internet, DCF is
supposed to help Connecticut pretend government can be a parent.

DCF's notorious failures are outpacing even the big increases in its
appropriations because family disintegration itself is outpacing those
appropriations.

But elected officials are grateful they at least have DCF to kick around
and thereby save them from any review of the public policies that might
be encouraging family disintegration.

Meanwhile, what calls itself the Family Institute of Connecticut, whose
name presumes concern with the real problem, instead spends most of its
time railing against homosexuals -- the one group completely innocent of
the whole mess.

CURRENTLY CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES VIOLATES MORE CIVIL RIGHTS ON A
DAILY BASIS THEN ALL OTHER AGENCIES COMBINED INCLUDING THE NATIONAL
SECURITY AGENCY/CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WIRETAPPING PROGRAM....

CPS Does not protect children...
It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even
killed at the hands of Child Protective Services.

every parent should read this .pdf from
connecticut dcf watch...

http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com/8x11.pdf

http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com

Number of Cases per 100,000 children in the US
These numbers come from The National Center on
Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington. (NCCAN)
Recent numbers have increased significantly for CPS

*Perpetrators of Maltreatment*

Physical Abuse CPS 160, Parents 59
Sexual Abuse CPS 112, Parents 13
Neglect CPS 410, Parents 241
Medical Neglect CPS 14 Parents 12
Fatalities CPS 6.4, Parents 1.5

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.

BE SURE TO FIND OUT WHERE YOUR CANDIDATES STANDS ON THE ISSUE OF
REFORMING OR ABOLISHING CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES ("MAKE YOUR CANDIDATES
TAKE A STAND ON THIS ISSUE.") THEN REMEMBER TO VOTE ACCORDINGLY IF THEY
ARE "FAMILY UNFRIENDLY" IN THE NEXT ELECTION...

Did you vet this with your other socks and Greg before you posted an

What part of this was the main point, and what points take a back
seat?
Which points are you obsessed with Kane?

In other words you are posting, for you claim in your sig below, the
support of a known "homosexual foster or adoptive parent" supporter.

What part of his ""sig"" are you referring to Kane?
