: I have no sympathy for drunk drivers who kill people. They choose to
drink.
: They choose to drive. They deserve more punishment than they typically
get,
: which is usually a mere 'vehicular manslaughter'.

And why "vehicular manslaughter" anyway? Why is it any different from
regular manslaughter?

: Intent matters. A lot.
:
: exactly -- it is what defines murder and its degrees

Then why is "manslaughter" (accidental killing) with a gun any different
from manslaughter with a car?

It may not be, in terms of penalty; but it may depend upon why you have
the gun and what you were doing at the time. Killling someone with a
gun, even if by accident, if you were committing a crime is a more
serious crime than killing someone with a gun by accident while you are
hunting. Killing someone with a car while driving drunk is generally
considered a more serious crime than killing someone with a car because
you were careless.

Manslaughter, like murder, comes in varying degrees, whether by car or
by gun or by any other means.
