Welcome back Alex. So what's new?

Thanks Christine, I remember you also .
Well the kids are older now, 13 & 16, and so it is much easier than it was
3
years ago (as I'm sure some of you can relate).
I met this wonderful woman about 2 years ago and we are getting married
soon. She has no kids but does want at least one..soooo, about 3 hours in
surgery
under the knife this past monday will hopefully reverse the vasectomy I
had
done several years ago. (By the way, if any of you guys are pondering this
procedure, keep in mind your scrotum will swell to about the size of a
baseball or larger--no I'm not kidding--for at least 3 days before it
kindly
decides to begin shrinking.)
I'm still in the military and have 2 years to retire. Hmm...let's
see...I've started collecting 19th century oil lamps and antique history
books--I just bought a fully leather bound copy of the 1866, 4-volume
"History of the United States" whixch is pretty fascinating considering it
was published within 1 year following the civil war.
Other than that, just doing the single parent thing (and preparing to get
remarried after almost 7 years).
So what's up with you?
Alex

Christine

Don't you think that's quite the invasive surgery for someone you're not
even married to yet? Granted you've been together for 2 years already but
that's still not alot of time to make that kind of decision, which you
originally made for a reason...

Christine

Yes I remember you too. I'm sorry to hear about Didi...

You mean Cici? Didi married a doc.....

her and I had it out
a few times but she was okay by me.

Who has not had it out with Didi? hee hee....

Pat...hmm...wasn't she somewhat of the matriarch of ASSP??

I am mistaken about Pat....It was Cici who passed away....
Pat just has not posted in ages....anyone can find out for us?

snip How are things with you?

Don't ask...lol...I am close to a nervous breakdown....kidding...
All three of us, the kids and I have been suffering with allergies, prolly
mold growing somewhere from the hurricane.....it pushed our door in....
and I bet the mold is growing....with the bouts of the heat and cold....and
the long wait for repairs.
I am still in college, last year of criminal justice...then want to go to law
school if this stupid auto immune stuff would allow my body to do what I wanna
do dammit! I still volunteer as a crisis counselor for domestic violence and
rape. I love working for victims and that is what I will continue to do in the
future. I have that bulldog spirit.
J has high spectrum autism, but still doing good mainstreamed and is such a
smart little dude. We take hours for checkers and trivia games....and C has a
drama problem, but she is doing well, too and gosh, so beautiful! Our cat is
now 20 pounds and we all have allergies to her, but do not have the heart to
let her go.....our dog is getting old and takes more meds than I
do...lol...she is a good watch dog though. .... let's see...love life is up
and down....(sucks basically) and I have no time for it anyway, so I keep
telling myself. I have quit smoking and want to lose 30 pounds, hence been
walking my sick ass everyday...feels good , though. ahem...
You know, I saw a man on the side of the road today begging and I thought,
that could be me! I am feeling pretty blessed to have such a supportive
family, even if they are dysfunctional..hee hee.
That could be any of us eh?
Take care.
V, who is rambling (sorry!)

Hello all,
First of all I'd like to preface this by saying it's been a long time--three
years I think--since I've posted to this NG.

It has been awhile, now folks can start confusing us again :-)

I've skimmed over the last
200-300 messages and I do recognize some names such as Joelle, CME, Karen,
and Kate. (I think Kate lives in Houston if my memory serves me right).
There was a very popular poster on here (well not everyone liked him) that
passed away...I do remember that many posters were deeply saddened at his
passing. I want to say his name was Peter but I can't remember for sure.
There was also a poster who fought bitterly with him (I think her name was
Lorian)--she had some form of social anxiety disorder and agoraphobia.
I posted originally as Alex until "Peter" (if that was his name) and I had a
few offline problems. I then started posting as George1984. At the end I
resumed posting as Alex (my actual name).
Some of you may remember me as Peter and I fought constantly and I was
always defending Lorian (again if that was her name).
Can anyone refresh my memory (Joelle, CME, etc.) with names, etc. Does
anyone know what happened to Lorian?
If nothing else, can someone tell me where I can find archived ASSP
messages?

Try dejanews.com Actually this takes you to a Google Beta Group ( I'm
getting seriously annoyed with Google, but that's a topic for another
time ) Hunt & Peck from there

Thanks, in advance.

YEEEAAAAAHHHHHH for you! You did quit and your allergies will be
better this year. Let me know how the walking is doing for you. I may
switch to the treadmill.

Butting in (so to speak) just for a moment here........

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your own health, and
that of the people you love - I quit 6 months, 8 days ago (not that I'm counting
or anything), and found out after the fact that my daughter is highly allergic
to cigarette smoke.

All those years she used to go to see her dad, come home and end up sick, visit
after visit, and it turned out she was allergic to the smoking (he still smokes
something like 2 packs per day) as well as allergic to his feather pillows and
down comforters. No WONDER she kept coming home and getting sick!

Walking is one of the best ways to start getting your body to heal itself - but
I would caution about a treadmill - if you have any problems with your knees,
this is likely to make it worse. You may want to try an elliptical trainer,
instead - 1/2 hour workout daily will lose you about a pound a week without
having to make any other changes in your life - the long term effects will be a
faster recovery of pulminary function, slow and steady weight loss, lowered
blood pressure, a reduction in stress, and if you work out at your local YMCA or
something similar, you'll enlarge your circle of friends.

Ok, butting back out now :-)

Glad you butted your butt story in too. It seems we are all getting very smart

my sis has bad ones and still is running. She is a nut yeah?

Yes, Ma'am!

Updates on us, in case anyone is interested - and if you aren't, skip on down to
the next post, and fergit about giving me grief about me posting about me (That
means you, Fritzy boy)

Daughter is a teenager, and I'm SOOOOOOO not ready! We had the open house at
the high school, to where she is headed next year (Did I mention I'm SOOOOOOOO
not ready?) - and for now, she's balanced between honor roll and high honor
roll, defying all the dire predictions about children raised in single mother
homes when they have no relationship with their dad (his choice, long story,
don't bother asking).

Son is that double digit age thing (10), which means he doesn't let me decide
how his hair gets cut anymore - I'm lucky if he agrees to a haircut at all,
actually - he also had grades sufficient to qualify for honor roll, though they
don't do that at the elementary level. Actually, he'd m uch rather skip school
entirely to spend time on his roller skates (anyone know what Jam Skating looks
like?), his skateboard (and mountain board, also an odd creation), and his
latest 'want' is to join the junior football team in the fall...... I think I'm
SOOOOOOOOO not ready (did I say that already?) He, too, is defying all the dire
predictions about children raised in single mother homes when they have no
relationship with their dad (his choice, long story, don't bother asking).

As for me...... well, ya know I quit smoking, and I've been working out for
about 15 months now..... feels good, except for the metacarpal I broke in my
left hand (apparently a LONG time ago) that I've recently re-injured... so its
been interesting. There have been some challenges, of course - both my dads
have Cancer, my mom has Parkinson's and I try to help take care of things from a
distance, since we can't go jet setting all the time. For now, the dads seem to
be holding their own, my mom's decline is very slow, which is encouraging, and I
thank the powers that be that of all the challenges out there, we got some that
were manageable.

Guess that's about it - I joined that flylady.com site, and yes, some days the
flurry of emails is a bit much - on the other hand, people can walk into my home
any time, with no notice, and it's ok, so it's been a HUGE improvement - my kids
even got jealous of how orderly and calm my bedroom is, and started working on
their rooms as well....

So life isn't too bad - just bought one of those Ron Popiel rotisserie ovens on
eBay, so that I, too, can 'set it and forget it' - will be a nice change from
the crock pot dinners.

That's all, folks...... hope I haven't bored anyone to tears..

Moon :-)

:-)

Thank you for posting the encouragement & advice.
I do belong to the Y and it is usually the same group week after week.

If you belong to the Y, some classes you might want to look into (Assuming that
the Y's all have approximately the same programs available)

Pilates and Flexlates - these work flexibility, and core strength (translation
abdomoinals)
Scult & Stretch, which used to be called Pump-It - weight training class, but
you can start with really light weights - this will take care of things like
those wobbly tricepts (I have muscles there now), biceps, quads (front of
thighs), hamstrings (back of thighs)

If they have any BOSU classes, try them - BOSU is like 1/2 of one of those big
exercise balls on a platform - and you use that instead of a step for some step
aerobics type stuff - my Y offers BOSU Cardio and BOSU Fusion (strength
training), either way, keeping your balance on the BOSU is great for that core
again (translation abdominals)

When I first started at the Y, I took one class a week - HABIT (hips, abs, butt
and intense thighs). Another 3 days a week I'd use the machines - elliptical,
stair stepper, the weight machines up in the weight room..... gradually I added
more classes so that by now, I take 5-8 classes per week. My daughter joins me
for the ones she likes, my son plays basketball with his friends, so it's mostly
a family thing, which strengthens our family.

As for the quitting? It was actually far easier than I had hoped for (ducking
so no one throws things at me).

Finding out your kid is allergic is probably the strongest deterrant to
un-quitting......

Well...... I'm not any better than any of the other moms, single, married,
