One Year Later: Everlyse is Still Missing

"The fact is our daughter is gone and we cannot go on with our lives
until we know what happened to her. We will never give up," said the
biological mother of Everlyse Cabrera, Marlena Olivas. The parents of
the local toddler who went missing exactly one year ago this week say
they aren't giving up hope.

It's hard to believe, but it was exactly one year ago when
2-and-a-half-year-old Everlyse Cabrera vanished from her foster parents
North Las Vegas home. That day, her foster parents told police the
toddler opened the front door and just walked away without them noticing.

A year later, her biological parents went back to the home and say they
are demanding answers.

It was very emotional for the biological parents of Everlyse Cabrera to
go back to the place where she disappeared. The Department of Family
Services took Everlyse away from her mother and placed her with Manny
and Vhee Carrascal. A year ago this week, she disappeared and the
Carrascals still refuse to help police.

Not much has changed over the year in the neighborhood where Everlyse
disappeared. Not much has changed with the investigation into what
happened to her either. So, one year to the date, Everlyse's biological
parents returned to the house where their daughter vanished.

"When CPS [Child Protective Services] takes your kids out of your care
because they say you cannot care for them and then they put them
somewhere like this, not only has CPS not been held responsible, but
these people have not been held responsible," said Olivas.

Family services placed Everlyse with Manny and Vhee Carrascal. On June
10, 2006, the foster family told police the child pushed a chair to the
door, unlocked it, and walked away. They have not talked with police or
anyone else about that day since -- and would not open the door for us.

Ernest Cabrera, Everlyse's biological father said, "We cannot go on like
this. We definitely need to know anything... anything at all."

Olivas said, "How can anyone feel safe with their kids running around
playing outside. No one knows what these people did with my daughter. No
one knows if she really walked out the front door or if these people
really did something to her.

Olivas refuses to give up hope and will not believe that Everlyse is
dead. In fact, she is taking money from an insurance settlement over
this case and offering a new reward.

"Me and Everlyse's father, we are offering a $50,000 reward for anyone
that may help us find her and $20,000 for any information.

The biological parents set up a MySpace page with pictures of their
missing daughter, Everlyse. It has pictures of Everlyse's younger
brother, who was also placed with the Carrascals and is now back with
the biological parents.

North Las Vegas police are just as frustrated with the foster parents
but have not given up. Sean Walker, of North Las Vegas Police said,
"It's scary. It's scary. We are going to find this little girl. I really
believe we are going to find her. I hope it's not too late."

The leads are few and far between now, but North Las Vegas Police hopes
this story may generate some tips.

killed at the hands of Child Protective Services.

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.
