Morgan just won't let me put her down. She wants to be on me all the time.
She eats and falls asleep. Then, when I put her down she wails.

I've tried just about everything. I'm at my wits end.

Please help!!

Will she let anyone else hold her, to give you a break?
Do you have a sling?

Did you get a sling yet? Will she sleep if you put her in the car seat? I
used to find this the best solution, my DD was (and still is) high need like
that. It will pass, and right now, you might drive yourself less crazy if
you just go with it and let her "be on you" and let EVERYTHING else slide.
I did this for the first 4 or so months of my DD's life, until she could sit
on her own and then things changed, slowly but surely. Housework and (even
showering) can slide - I used to make myself one goal a day. Mine was
usually "I will take a shower before my DH gets home". And that's ALL I did
all day, literally. I just nursed and held my dd or put her in the carseat
and drove around until she fell asleep, then I could take the seat out of
the car and she would stay asleep if I was very quiet

Do you have any help from DH? What have you tried??? Maybe we can give you
things you haven't thought of?

Ohhhhh ... I remember the days. And it can be so, so hard. It's most likely
a(nother) growth spurt, but hearing that answer over and over isn't much
help when you're in the middle of it. Probably hearing BTDT isn't much help,
either, except to let you know that neither you nor your babe are doing
anything wrong.

You can do some things to make it easier on yourself ...

- give over to it ... she needs you now, just let her have you. It's hard,
but will pass (I promise). I do remember the exact moment I did this, and
how much better it made me feel.

- try handing her over to a person instead of putting her down yourself. I
could never put either of my babies down without them waking. DH always
could.

- is there anything (besides you) that keeps her happy when she's awake? The
sound of the vacuum or the baby gym or you singing or whatever... do those
things with her, so she starts to notice you as a playmate rather than a
milk machine.

- and the usual ... drink plenty of water, rest when you can, don't worry
about the clock, and hang in there. It's OK and it'll be even more OK.

Hey Carol Ann - I don't have any great advice, but just wanted to say I am
in the same boat. I have spent the past 7+ weeks wearing or holding the
little guy for most of the day. I don't know whether you have tried a
sling...I have a Maya pouch (he loved it for a week, and then he hated it),
a Baby Bjorn (he hates it) and a Snuggli (it was a gift I thought we'd never
use, and...he LOVES it!!!!). Owen just about lives in the Snuggli. I would
guess he is in it at least 6 hours a day now...he even takes his morning and
afternoon nap in it (his mid-day nap he takes in his carseat usually). I am
finding that the past two days I am finally able to set him down for 1/2
hour here and there in his carseat while I brush my teeth or do the dishes,
and he is fine. It seems to me that the more I keep him in the Snuggli, the
more tolerant he is of being put down for a little bit here and there. Maybe
that is worth a try?

Hoping it gets better for both of us,
Michelle

I'm sure this advice has been given before, but have you made sure she has
"limp arm" before you try to put her down? When she falls asleep, wait
until you can pick up an arm and drop it...if it is totally and completely
limp when it drops, then you might be able to put her down.

My mother did hold her and was effective in putting her to sleep. But since
she broke her wrist that is out. It's been really tough on me. Because of
my mother's broken wrist, Kevin is working open to close (8 am - midnite)
which means no relief for me unless he comes home for a small break.

I'm able to put her down in the bed by nursing lying down. Then, I get up
without burping. This tends to cause her to spit up.

I bought the Maya wrap but can't imagine it working well until Morgan is
bigger.

I bought the Bjorn yesterday and as soon as Kevin is able to be here long
enough, I will try it on. I don't want to lock her into it until I have
someone to help me get her out just in case the lock sticks. Just the first
time.

I guess I should get the car seat out and take her for a walk when I can
after the sun starts to lessen.

I
used to find this the best solution, my DD was (and still is) high need

like
that. It will pass, and right now, you might drive yourself less crazy if
you just go with it and let her "be on you" and let EVERYTHING else slide.

Oh now there's a thought. I can drive around. I just have been leery about
getting out for fear that she will scream in the car like she did a week
ago. It just about broke my heart.

Do you have any help from DH? What have you tried??? Maybe we can give

you
things you haven't thought of?

I've tried rocking, singing, swinging, bouncing.....some work some of the
time if she falls asleep. But, I don't know what to do when she doesn't
want to sleep. After I change her, play with her, walk around with her,
swing her, sing to her...I just don't know what else to do. Then, she
starts crying and crying and crying.......

I feel like a feeding machine.

Ugh. That *is* rough on you! When my dh hurt his back I'd place A on
his lap, on a pillow so he could hold her. Can your mom manage that
for short periods?

I don't think my Maya will work well for A either.... she's a week
younger than Morgan.

I hope that works, or the suggestion of driving is a good one.
Maybe placing her carseat/carrier on a dryer for white noise?

You certainly have my sympathies!

Nan
