DDAVP, Desmopressin, can it delay natural dry nights?
My daughter is 7 and has been on Desmopressin for almost a year now.
She has been fine thru the day for years, but night time is a different story. Desmopressin does seem to help, but not 100%. We do try and limit liquids, no caffine, etc., take her to the bathroom when we go to bed, but she still has 'accidents' at least once a week. We don't use pullups, just a pad on her sheets to keep the mattress dry. I know that Desmopressin is not habit forming, but could using it delay drug free dry nights? Let's say that after a year of treatment, she develops a stronger bladder to keep her dry. But if by letting things run their course, if she develops the ability naturally after 2 months of toughing out the situation, I would prefer that. She has no shame of the situation, we don't punish a wet night, we praise dry nights. So I wonder if we should save the Desmopressin for sleep overs, etc, and allow nature to take it's course. Thanks in advance.. Mike |
