Ex-NFL Star Wanted In Michigan For Back Child Support
Attorney General Says Rison Could Face Prison Time

POSTED: 6:28 pm EDT May 26, 2004
UPDATED: 3:19 pm EDT May 27, 2004

An arrest warrant was issued for a former NFL star who has allegedly failed
to pay child support for his teenage son who lives in Michigan.

Andre Rison (pictured, left) made millions as a wide receiver for the
Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns, but authorities
say he owes nearly $100,000 in back child support to his ex-wife and child.

"Living large, the life of luxury, but won't pay off $94,000 for his son.
It's a shame, it's an outrage, it's a sin," said Michigan Attorney General
Mike Cox.

Last year, a Genesee County court issued a civil bench warrant and put a
lien against Rison's NFL pension.

Rison was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but did not show, according
to reports.

The FBI is now getting involved in the investigation. Rison apparently also
owes back child support to his other children, who live in Atlanta.

"The FBI warrant gets the federal authorities involved and just gets more
resources to help gang tackle him," said Cox.

Investigators say they aren't sure where Rison is living now, but they're
determined to find him.

"I don't care if you're in the NFL, if you're in the Hall of Fame, or if
you're working on the plant floor, you have to take care of your kids. You
stiff your kids, I or some other prosecutor is going to be after you," said
Cox.

Rison made headlines 10 years ago when his former girlfriend, Lisa "Left
Eye" Lopes, of the hip-hop R&B group TLC, burned down his Georgia mansion
along with all of his sports memorabilia, Local 4 reported. Lopes was killed
in a car crash in Honduras on April 25, 2002.

Cox said if Rison doesn't turn himself in immediately, he'll be charged with
a felony, which could put him in prison for four years.

Rison grew up in Flint, Mich., and played college ball at Michigan State
University.

Didn't the OJ case prove those pensions were untouchable?
