In the case of Eliza Jane Scovill, I first reviewed the autopsy
report, which did in fact give rise to personal concerns and doubts.
However, after going through Dr. Al-Bayati's report point-by-point, he
put
all doubts to rest. There is no question in my mind that his report
accurately describes the true causes in the death of Eliza Jane Scovill.

This is a PhD who works for the Department of Pathology and is a Professor
of Pathology but is not a pathologist who is an MD and determines cause of
death. These are specialized PhD's who do research within a narrow branch
of
research.
They have no medical training and no clinical or anatomical pathology
training.
They can not be medical directors of any clinical laboratory by federal or
state law.
They are great for very specific topics that pertain to their area of
study.
You have to ask him if he considers himself a pathologist.

targetted and in far worse condition than the red cells. Nor is B19

X-ray showing minor infiltrates, but hypoxia all out of proportion to
the X-ray, is a candidate for Pneumocystis pneumonia. If that organism
with inflammatory casts is actually found in the lungs on autopsy, then
that makes the diagnosis. Needless to say, amoxicillin doesn't
magically cause Pneumocystis fungi to show up in your lungs. And in a
3 year-old that disease (pneumocystis pneumonia without other reason
for it) is AIDS-defining. Finding lymphocytopenia and HIV viral
proteins in the brain is merely icing on the cake, with a cherry on
top. If her mother is HIV-positive you don't have to be Einstein to
figure out how she got it. And apparently some of these people are a

Last I recall (from sci.med a few months ago) what we knew was that
she'd died suddenly, and there was a discussion here that this didn't
sound entirely consistent with PCP. Is the above information about the
PMH and autopsy results posted somewhere?

The only info available on the web is from Dr. Bennett's rebuttal
(posted at the cite earlier in the thread), which is itself taken from
information given by the defence. Unfortunately the defence very
carefully avoids all mention of the key clinical facts of presenting
chest exam and oximetry before antibiotics were given. Probably because
they are impossible to explain, even within the defense looneytunes
view of the medicine. Apparently the child did die of a primary
respiratory arrest, and was blue. I have some inquiries in to see if I
can get numbers. Don't hold your breath .

The "doofus" part is doing the animal tox research above (please read
carefully what you post) and then thinking you're qualified to say
*anything* about the workup or clinical course of a 3 year-old child
with pneumonia.

This guy has NOTHING on this CV to indicate that he knows a damn thing
about human clinical medicine in general or pediatrics in particular,
about infectious diseases in general or pneumonia in particular, about
antibiotic allergies and amoxicillin reactions in particular, about
viruses in general and B19 and HIV in particular. But there he is,
acting as "expert" witness for all of it. Sheesh. And what he actually
suggests happened, reflects this complete lack of human clinical
perspective. Read Dr. Bennett's comments. What he says goes for me

This has very nearly happened already, as the AIDS drugs got pretty
good when the protease inhibitors came out, and the deniers then either
had to take the pills and admit they had a problem, or else die. So
we've heard a lot less in the last decade from those actually INFECTED
with HIV. If they weren't busy taking HAART they were busy dying, and
either way they weren't doing much activism. The AIDS-deniers have been
suspiciously HIV-negative, of late. Here's an exception. And of course,
a death. This 3 year-old girl who Maggiore was claiming was full of
"vibrant life" turns out to be a sick little child who spent the last
half of her life weighing below the 3rd percentile of her peers. She
wasn't doing well. Somehow, everybody forgot to ask why.

The "stupid tactics" that Jan snipped was a quote from Dr Harold
Buttram, where he described the horrible injuries inflicted on Alan
Ream (NOT Yurko - the dead baby's mother didn't marry the killer until
after he was convicted). Imagine that poor little baby being hurled
around, with four of his ribs still not quite healed from previous
assaults. The only good thing was that at ten weeks a baby is not
aware of its mortality and just feels the pain without experiencing
the fear of death as well.

How could anyone with a conscience support a person who would do this
to a baby?

(I don't know why Jan had to bring amalgam into this, but I am still
waiting for some definition of "mercury amalgam" that isn't
nonsensical. An amalgam is an alloy of mercury with some other metal.
A "mercury amalgam" would be a mixture of mercury and mercury, and
would be useless for filling teeth unless you kept your head very
