2 month checkup!
Madeline is now 2 months old...how time flies!
She weighed in at a nicely average 11lbs, but is a lanky 24 inches long (95 %ile)! Anyone have advice about car seats? At this rate she will outgrow the infant seat by height well before she meets the weight requirement of the toddler seat I had planned to get. Any convertible seats that are recommended for tall but skinny kids? She has an umbilical hernia, which I knew about from last time, but also had an umbilical granuloma this time. No big deal, just treated with silver nitrate to get it to fall off. Makes me wonder what her belly button is going to look like when she grows up though! I bet I won't have to worry about her trying to call attention to it with midriff tops and belly button rings... She did well with her injections....the Dr took one leg and the nurse the other and they did it really fast. She let out a couple outraged wails and then quieted right down and we nursed before leaving (although she was already calm). She's napping now, which is a little unusual, but we have been working on establishing an afternoon nap. The Dr was impressed with her sleep pattern....She sleeps 8+ hours most nights, starting around 9 or 10 and going until 6 or 7, with an occasional 4 or 5 am quick feed. She gets up for about 1-2hrs in the morning and then takes a 2 hr morning nap. Usually she just takes little 30 min cat naps scattered through the afternoon, but I'm trying to soothe her into longer afternoon naps. Sometimes she will do 1-3 or 3-5. It's all about my timing...if I catch her when she's ready, no problem. If I'm early or late it doesn't happen. I feel guilty for still feeling tired, given that I'm probably better rested than most new moms! I'm also trying to convince her to go to sleep earlier, and have managed to shift her from 11pm to 10pm. Actually, she probably shifted herself and it's just coincidence that I've been trying to move it earlier. Apparently they start to go to bed earlier around 3 months, but of course then we'll add a night awakening. As it is, she might sleep 8+ hrs straight, but I have to get up to pee and sometimes pump a couple of times a night anyway. So, I made it to two months and am feeling pretty good and Madeline is doing great! I'm so glad I'm breastfeeding now that I've made it through the hard part...she's heading off to daycare next week and I am already jealous of the daycare providers. But, I can do something for her no one else can and can cure any ill or bad mood (so far) just by nursing. Anyway, just wanted to share our progress! Amy and Madi |

Any convertible seats that are recommended for tall but skinny kids? No real advice - but I remember seeing some convertible seats on the graco website: www.gracobaby.com She did well with her injections....the Dr took one leg and the nurse the other and they did it really fast. She let out a couple outraged wails and then quieted right down and we nursed before leaving (although she was already calm). E has her injections coming up and I'm a little nervous about how she's going to get through it. Or more like how *i'm* going to get through it ! Lucky, Lucky, Lucky - Mine won't sleep for more than 3 hours. So, I made it to two months and am feeling pretty good and Madeline is doing great! I'm not too happy about leaving her in daycare either, but you gotta do what you gotta do I guess :-| Thanks for the update, PK |

She'll get over it quickly, but it's harder for the parent, IMO. Yesterday, dd got *five* individual jabs at her 15 month appt. I'd never been nervous for shots before until I saw all five of those syringes lined up. I felt sick to my stomach! She wailed for them but stopped as soon as I picked her up and was babbling to me 30 seconds later. JennP. |

"Purple Gal" wrote in message ... We had our 2 month check up last week! I went back to work 2 weeks ago, so I don't have much time to check out newsgroups every day like I used to. Ben was 15 lbs 4 oz (97%) and 24.5 inches (95%). He will be outgrowing his carseat soon too.... so I am in a similar boat as you. I like Graco.... I'll check out consumer reports before we actually buy one.. but it will have to be able to go rear facing to 30 lbs. BRU. I got one for Sproglette that did rear-facing to thirty and converted to forward facing. Jess |

2 month checkup!
Sounds like all is going well; you are blessed to have a great sleeper.
About carseats: Britax, Britax, Britax! There are several models to choose from, and they are all great! I own 4 Britax (2 Roundabouts, 1 Marathon, 1 Boulevard) + 2 in my Mom's car (1 Roundabout, 1 Boulevard), and wouldn't buy anything else! They are pricey, but so worth it! 2 month checkup!
I have an Evenflo Triumph:
http://www.specialtybaby.com/evtrvcocarse1.html it got great reviews from consumer reports - and it looks nice! I like that it doesn't have a carrying handle, but that is an individual preference, I suppose. The seat has easy to adjust shoulder straps, just a turn of a dial. My in-laws blessed us with it, and they are consumer reports junkies, so we knew to look at their website before 'placing the order'. the website, in late Nov., was the best deal we could find. The seat is a bit on the large side, but I wonder if that is just us getting used to sharing our car with another person. Our spacious car seemed to shrink when we put in the seat! |
