I am due in less than 2 weeks. I had been having sporadic contractions,
so probably the Braxton Hicks contractions. Then I didn't have them for
awhile. I got them again Thursday night and it was a little painful,
then they went away. I got them again tonight. I do have a 2 year old,
so I know what the real thing was like, but I didn't have the Braxton
Hicks with him and I knew when the time had come. I'm afraid that I'm
not going to be able to extinguish between the false labor and the real
thing. Also, it has been too painful to count the contractions within
the hour. They are sort of blurred together. Sometimes it just feels
like a painful cramp. Can anyone help me out?

You'll know it's the real
thing when they get consistently longer, stronger, and
closer together over a significant period of time.

Thanks for the info, but I ended up having my baby boy that next morning.
When I was walking down the hallway to Labor and Delivery, my water broke.
Then when I got their I had a strong contraction, so they hurried and got
me a room and I had my baby within 20 minutes of getting into the room.
Talk about a close one. I never knew I would have a baby so quick. I only
had about 10 hard pushes and he was out.

So, you *did* know when it was the real thing because you got yourself to
the hospital. Congrats on your new baby and the quick delivery.

-Patty, mom of 1+2
