NORTHFIELD - An East Oakcrest Avenue man was arrested Monday evening
after he allegedly hindered a child-abuse investigation and held
officers at bay for about 90 minutes, police said.

The state Division of Youth and Family Services came to the home Monday
to look into a complaint about a high-school-age girl, said Chief Robert
James. The parents did not allow the investigators inside, and the DYFS
investigators called police for backup at about 5 p.m.

Officers from Northfield, Linwood and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's
Office set up a perimeter around the house and called in negotiators
until the investigators could interview the alleged victim and make sure
she was in a safe place, James said. No weapons were involved, but the
officers decided to err on the side of caution and blocked off the
street to traffic.

At about 6:30 p.m., the father was arrested and charged with obstruction
of an investigation, James said. His name was not released.

Neighbors stood around and watched the standoff, but had little to say
once it was over.

"He's been a friend of mine for years," said a neighbor who declined to
give her name. "He's been a very good father."

"He seemed like a pretty nice guy" and not one to be involved in
trouble, said Sean Ireland, 14, who said he knew the father casually.
"Was it necessary to have all those cop cars?"

Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that
are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per
100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse
and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the
citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold
parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY
government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and
death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more
human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which
they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that
they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when
children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a
bunch of social workers.
