Hello: could a baby be breastfed from a dead mother? I am no expert but this is what I think. If the mother was brain dead and her body was kept alive I can't see why not. Similar to babies born to mothers who are in a coma or brain dead. I cannot remember where, but I seem to recall a legend, maybe of south american origin where a baby was supposed to have fed from the body of its mother for a day or two before being rescued. If the mother is dead and the body is not hooked up to any machines then the body will not produce any more milk. Whatever milk in the breasts may be available, but I do not think the let down reflex would occur. Weird question! Larissa |
