Default C-Sections Linked to Higher Cavity Risk in Babies

In addition, since at least some suceptibility to cavities is genetic, it
would be perfectly logical that mothers with more cavities in their
history
would have children with more cavities. Add diet to the mix-chances are
good
that mothers with more cavities have diets which are more cavity inducing
and are more likely to feed their children foods which are more likely to
cause cavities.

Well, the study was controlled for those factors by looking at the same
group of women (inner city black women from Birmingham, Alabama). The only
(purported) difference between the two groups was some had C-section and
some had vaginal deliveries. Babies delivered by C-section acquired cavity
causing bacteria earlier than those delivered vaginally. Who knows if
having the bacteria earlier contributes to devleoping cavities, since they
didn't look at that. (not long enough of a study?)

Hmmm, I wonder if they controlled for breastfeeding? My guess would be that
C-section moms may have lower bf rates, and maybe it's the exposure to
formula that causes the bacteria to proliferate? Seems like a poorly
designed study, with a rush to publish partial results.
