Default Carrier Suggestions For a Big Baby

I hear everyone suggesting maya wrap but wasn't there a recall on one of
their products?

I found this about a product recall, so I would assume that people
should be careful not to get this particular wrap if it is still on
the shelves... It is likely to be long gone though. They were only
sold between Jan and July of 2001. I would be wary of getting
one second hand though and know what to look for.

Maya Wrap Announce Recall of Infant Carriers/Slings posted by ::
infoZine Staff :: 09/25/01 @ 04:32:54 PM :: views Product
Recalls In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC), Maya Wrap, of Omaha, Neb., is voluntarily
recalling about 5,000 infant carriers/slings. WASHINGTON, D.C. -
The welds of the metal rings that support the carriers/slings can
break, posing a fall hazard to young children.

Maya Wrap has received 20 reports of the rings breaking. The
company received a report that one child fell to the ground but
no injuries were reported.

The recalled carriers/slings are made of 100-percent cotton fabric
with two metal support rings. The rings measure 1/8-inch in width.
They were sold in a variety of colors, prints, and sizes. A large
white label sewn in the slings reads in part, "MAYA WRAP" and
"ECHO EN GUATEMALA".

Web sites and individual distributors nationwide sold these
carrier/slings from January 2001 through July 2001 for between
$30 and $40. Also, eight children's boutiques in various states
sold these carrier/slings.

Consumers should stop using these carriers/slings immediately
and call Maya Wrap at (800) 501-9979 anytime for instructions
on how to have the carriers/slings repaired.

Carriers/slings with 1/4-inch width rings are not included in this
recall.

Hello,
My baby, who is two & a half months old, will soon outgrow his Baby
Bjorn carrier. It is not very practical for me to use a stroller on a
regular basis because of where I live (E.g. lots of stairs, very
crowded streets etc.). Right now, my baby is about 64cm long &
fifteen pounds. Does anyone have any suggestions for a carrier for
such a young & big baby?

You can use a Maya Wrap (
http://www.mayawrap.com) for about as long as
your back and shoulders hold up.

seconded. i still use my Maya wrap for my 35 month old (38" tall, 27
pounds). it really helps take the stress off carrying him on my hip & he
likes piggybacking in it too.
