I can't stand clothes!
Anyone else feeling like this? My skin is driving me crazy. I'm
drinking lots of water to hydrate myself but I still hate having anything touching my skin. I got dh to put on some Aveeno moisturizer last night and after a couple of hours I had to take a shower because even that was driving me nuts. I'm wandering around in an old, old cotton nightgown because I hate having anything on my belly (or under it). Also, the my bikini area is really irritating me. I have to have a soft cloth there so my skin doesn't touch it self. I just don't remember this with the twins. Anyone have any pointers? -- Brigitte aa #2145 edd #3 February 15, 2004 http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/j/joshuaandkaterina/ "Readers are plentiful; thinkers are rare." ~ Harriet Martineau |

If it's dry skin, one thing that works for me is bathing with a Johnson's product. It is some sort of baby bath, called Soothing Skin, I believe. It comes in a blue bottle. This stuff is the best! I don't know why they don't market it for adults. If you're too afraid to try bathing, though, this may not work for you. Another problem you could have is eczema. For that, you can get some cream from your doctor. Do you have any sort of rash appearing anywhere? That would be a sure sign. You might want to reduce your use of scented soaps and/or bubble baths (the Johnson product aside, of course). They can cause or exacerbate existing eczema. I've heard of people suffering really bad eczema just because of what laundry detergent they use. I use the only unscented laundry detergent I can find, which is some Tide product. Also, if I find that my skin has been worse than normal, lately, I make the washing machine do a second rinse cycle. Scented moisturizing creams can be really bad, too. There are tons of unscented moisturizers available, so it won't be hard to find something that works. I can *completely* relate on the dry skin issue. :-( But for me, it's not from being pg. I am like this all the time. |

Don't wear any clothes ;-) Here are a few things you may want to try... *soak in a bath with oatmeal (cheaper than buying the Aveeno soak) *soak a wash cloth in a baking soda solution (4 tablespoons baking soda in 1 quart water) and washing with that. *soak a wash cloth in milk and apply to your skin for 5 minutes I hope the itchiness stops soon! Your pregnancy may have set off allergies, too... did with me! Try changing detergents. You might want to reduce your use of scented soaps and/or bubble baths (the Johnson product aside, of course). See, I'm psychic. Sk |

message ... Anyone else feeling like this? My skin is driving me crazy. Oh, yeah... All skin was super itchy and dry starting around 18wks. I'm at 24wks now. Shins and scalp were flaking, cracking, then decided to start bleeding while DH was in Brazil for a week in early December. The weather here in Austin is being super-wacky (=hot/cold) and dry, which just exacerbates the problem. Being on a tight cash-flow at the moment (due to xmas travel, etc), here's what I did: 1) For 3-4 days, put about a cup of quick-cook oatmeal in the HOT bathtub, let the water cool off, then soaked in the tepid oatmealy water for about 20 minutes. I know it sounds gross and leads to alot of bathtub cleaning, but it just felt sooooo good. Before toweling off, smeared crisco (yes, that would be vegetable shortening) on my shins and towelled them very lightly before putting on a granny-gown. Although I did smell like an oatmeal cookie, it got my legs to quit cracking and bleeding -- very important. I also put olive oil on my scalp on the nights before shampooing the next morning (I've only been able to shampoo every 3rd day since I got pg). 2) Finally made it to the drugstore where I picked up Palmer's Cocoa Butter (in the tub - texture is like crisco, but smells like chocolate and much less greasy) for legs and belly and Scalpicin, which helped the itchy scalp. 3) Turned on a humidifier every night since we got back from christmas. It has helped the most with the skin dryness as well as preggy-nose (stuffy, bleeding nose issue). Hope that helps. Robin EDD #1 4/25/04 |
