Default Verbal abuser runs school

When principals paddle students, they usually have to do it privately.
When they engage in verbal abuse, the whole world's invited to watch.
At least that is probably the way little Katie White feels about
things.

It began when another student accused 8-year-old Katie White to taking
$5. Based on the mere accusation, 3rd grader Katie lost her recess
privileges at William Penn Elementary School in Pennsylvania's
Elizabeth Forward School Distinct.

That was not enough for Principal Marlene Whitby. The verbal abuser
insisted on dragging the child from classroom to classroom, all the
while calling the innocent child a thief and a liar.

At first, Katie's father, Ryan White, could not get any action from the
school board. Never mind that the accusing student recanted. Finally,
Whitby apologized privately and kept her job.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Paul Mueller and school board president
Lowell Meek are laying low. The school board is tight lipped and
dodging questions, claiming the verbal abuse of a child by a school
official is a *personnel matter*.

Forward Township supervisor Tom DeRosa is another story. Also the
father of a 3rd grader, he said the state would have to call out riot
control if it happened to his child!

A lot of other parents and their children are upset as well. They want
Whitby's professional scalp as a trophy. Some apparently want another
part of her anatomy as well.

School officials have called in psychologists to help everyone else's
children get over the verbal abuse they witnessed. Not all students
are buying into the charade. They know the principal did wrong.

Apparently they don't care that Katie's sister kicked her out of their
shared bedroom because of the principal said Katie was a very bad girl.
They just want Katie and her little problem to go away.

This is the future of school discipline. It is also the tip of a
ubiquitous verbal abuse iceberg that is rampant in school. Like
Katie's sister, students imitate teachers and bully other students,
even if they are family members.

The problem is that there is no law against verbal abuse. There is no
way to photograph the emotional abuse that Katie suffered from the
abuse. According to her father, she is just a scared and bewildered
little girl. Then, that is what verbal abusers do. They rip into a
child's inner soul and do great harm without ever hitting them.

Verbal abuse falls naturally under emotional abuse, which in fact is
illegal by statute in many states when applied to child protection. So
there is a law against verbal abuse, Opinion. Is all you have opinions?
How about some backing for your claims?

There is no
way to photograph the emotional abuse that Katie suffered from the
abuse.

Since it was done in public no "photo" is needed, but photo evidence
has been obtained before, and forensic specialists can trace very
clearly the effects of verbal/emotional abuse on a child.

According to her father, she is just a scared and bewildered
little girl. Then, that is what verbal abusers do. They rip into a
child's inner soul and do great harm without ever hitting them.

Yep. Shouldn't be allowed. Right along with physical abuse. And in most
states it is illegal to do emotional abuse to a child.

In Iowa, for instance, it's covered under "Mental Injury."
http://www.dhs.state.ia.us/dhs2005/d...ild_abuse.html
http://www.dhs.state.ia.us/dhs2005/d...guide%5Fmr.doc

"..The victim of child abuse is a person under the age of 18 who has
suffered one or more of the categories of child abuse as defined in
Iowa law (physical abuse, mental injury, sexual abuse, denial of
critical care, child prostitution, presence of illegal drugs,
manufacturing or possession of a dangerous substance or bestiality in
the presence of a minor. .."

Can't help though but agree with you, Opinion. Mental abuse is serous
stuff. Why would you think that non-spankers are prone to another kind
of abuse? It simply isn't so. Non-spankers tend to be non-punishers. It
would be pointless to replace one abuse with another, regardless of
their "ranking" as to effect on the child.

Ever see me or any other poster that is anti-CP in this ng post a
support for verbal abuse? Or emotional abuse? Or negligence? Or
anything other than responsible humane parenting?

And hitting a child, along with physical abuse, also impacts their
mental state...hence it's doubly abusive to them.

Please provide links to the posts where I or another poster has
supported mentally abusing a child by verbal abuse. Not that you will,
but thank you for your attention.

Default Courses for Opinions. Verbal abuser runs school

Good grief. This isn't the future of school discipline, as you state
below. This is an example of teacher disrespect and verbal abuse.
Neither teacher disrespect, verbal abuse, or physical abuse and assault
should be tolerated. This is not an example of what happens when
schools can no longer hit and hurt children. This is an example of a
teacher who needs to learn alternative, firm, positive, and appropriate
discipline strategies.

Anyone who assumes this is the result of not being allowed to paddle
children in schools needs to learn to make rational and realistic
associations, back up those associations with research, and realize that
there are many alternative strategies that work because they do not hurt
children physically or emotionally.

A course in child guidance and child development may be appropriate for
you, opinions. Then you could debate more effectively, and actually
have something other than uninformed opinions to contribute to the ng.

Thanks for writing though. The pro-spankers seldom have anything to
contribute but uninformed opinion.

Default Courses for Opinions. Verbal abuser runs school

You are wrong, LaVonne. If he took a course in child guidance and child
development he'd have to stop giving uninformed opinions. Most people
that bother to study child development move away from punishment models
of child rearing...because it's so obviously counterproductive to a
child's normal developmental potentials.

But then, it's not like such information is hidden away from those that
actually have more than an 'opinion.'
