not get up in the morning ? I found it I got out of bed before 9am I was
sick, after 9am no problems. That worked for the first child, second child
made no differance, I was sick for 9 months. (had hypermemis gradium)

Then again that worked for me, might not work for her
Im sure other mums (and or dads) might be able to help here.

As far as I've been able to tell by talking to other women and reading this
group, things that might help vary from woman to woman. That said, I'll
give you my suggestions.

1) If she's craving anything in particular, she should listen to that. I
found that when I craved a particular food or type of foods, those foods
tended to ease my discomfort. If that food isn't healthy, she should,
IMHO, eat it anyway. If it's the difference between a Big Mac and eating
nothing, she should eat the Big Mac.

That said, I found I could "use" my junk food cravings to get healthier
things down at the same time. I could often eat a good salad if I had some
"evil" stuff along with it when I would never have managed the salad alone.

2) Last week a friend of mine recommended ginger tea. For me, I must say,
this has been a huge relief; although I think I'm getting to the end of my
morning sickness anyway.

3) I've found that concern (but not hovering!) from DH, and his support that
I should eat what tastes good to me, has been invaluable. :-)

Good luck to you both. For most women, it does pass.

Default Morning Sickness

Hi there

I was sick 23 hours a day from about 7 weeks till about 14 weeks. I am now
at 16 weeks and only feel icky in the morning. I haven't vomited for 3
weeks!!

I found that if you were going to get it - it would happen no matter what I
did or didn't do. It was easier just to go with the flow and not fight it.
It just got very depressing not being able to stop it. Trust the process of
life - morning sickness is normal (unless she is getting dehydrated). Just
think of the little miracle she is making. Support from my friends and
hubby were the best things for me - just having someone around to talk to
kept my mind off how bad I was feeling. Even if they just came aroung to
watch a movie with me. I found gummy bears good to suck on after I had been
sick. I guess it was the sugar in them. Also orange tic tacs were good at
the icky stage. The best thing I can recommend is that if she asks for
something get it straight away - don't wait for the ads . Oh, and let her
know it's OK to ask for something at 3am in the morning.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!

Camille

I've found giving birth the best remedy.
It can only last 8 or so more months..! ;-)

Default Morning Sickness

Ugh, I wish there was a cure for morning sickness. I travelled for the
holidays and did very well and thought the worst was over but just finished
vomiting my guts out about 30 minutes ago.

What makes mine worse is meat, cheese and dairy. What seems to help is
something sweet- not just sweet like chocolate, but something that is
basically pure sugar- orange tic tacs, bubble gum, orange or grape soda,
chewy sweet tarts.

I go for my 4 month appointment this week and still feel sick. I am still
8-10 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight dpending on if I weigh at night or
first thing in the morning. I lost 15 pounds very quickly, then very
gradually crept back up to only being 10 pounds down from the start, and
that is where I have stayed. I wonder when I will start gaining weight,
since I am approaching the halfway point? (which I consider to be 4.5
months)...

I guess I will be prone to some sickness through the entire pregnancy but I
do feel better for much longer periods of time now and am able to eat out
some.

Ginger *anything* worked wonders for me.

Get fresh ginger root at the store and steep a couple of thick slices in hot
water, for tea.

Sometimes just sniffing the fresh ginger helped me.

Crystallized ginger candy worked.

Other people have sworn by ginger ale -- never worked for me, but it has for
many people.

Keep in mind, this too shall pass. Except for the last couple of
weeks before delivery, the morning sickness phase of pregnancy is, in my
opinion, the absolute worst part. Tell your wife that once the morning
sickness passes, the worst is over (except for the last two weeks).

Doesn't work for me, I think because it is corn syrup with artifical ginger
flavor or something...

I was doing GREAT, even eating out until today, our first day home from
travels, and today I couldn't keep food down- tried twice and threw up each
time to the point of getting a headache from the dry heaves. Nothing is
helping me today- not the usual Zofran/Zantac and B6...not Coke with no
ice...not sugary candy. Nothing.

I can't help but wonder....the only thing I did differently was take a dose
of stool softeners (Colace) last night before bed; It says you can take 1
three times a day or take all 3 at one time, once a day with plenty of
water- I took 3 at once. (Actually what I took was Phillip's liquigels, same
ingredient...) I have noticed for a while now that EVERY single time I take
stool softeners I am so much sicker on my stomach with nausea and vomiting.
Can this be related? I swear for me, it happens every time even when i take
just one, once.......what about them can cause nausea?

You have to get REAL gingerale or ginger-beer, *not* that artificially
flavored stuff such as Canada Dry. AFAIK in north america real
gingerale or ginger beer only come in single-serving bottles, not the
big 2L soda jugs, and will have some funny brand name that you do not
recognize. Read the list of ingredients to make sure it contains
actual real ginger.

If anyone cares :-P, IMO the very best ginger ale in the universe g
is the "old #3 hot" variety from Blenheim Bottlers (1-800-270-9344) in
South Carolina. Not that I've had any since becoming pregnant, because
I do not even want to *know* what it'd cost to have delivered to
Canada where I now live. But man it's GOOD.

Anyhow, at least in much of North America, unless you live in a very
small town you should be able to find SOME brand of actual real
gingerale in your local stores.

Good luck,

Pat
