Default How my second labour *finished* - it's a girl!

Well, forget all that 'weeks' stuff - I didn't even get a chance to
start pacing round the garden!

After making that post yesterday morning, I went into proper labour at
around 1.20 p.m., and it was indeed fast and furious when it started.
Because of the way it had been on and off at first I thought I'd just
wait it out for a few contractions to be sure it wasn't going to go off
again, and that got me to the point where I could barely stand up. We
got to the birthing centre at 2.45 p.m., I was examined at 2.50 p.m. and
told I was 3 - 4 cm dilated, and I gave birth at 3.22 p.m. I never even
had a chance to get in the birthing pool and by god, it was a painful
experience, but I now feel absolutely fantastic and delighted to have
that over with!

My daughter is called Katherine Abigail, weighs 7 lb 12 oz (I think
that's 3.54 kg), and looks exactly like her big brother did at that age,
but with noticeable differences already in the way she reacts to things.
She took a little while to figure out how to nurse but has been
nursing like a little champ ever since.

Oh - and Jamie was there for the birth! I can't believe how well he
took it! I hadn't wanted him there as I thought all the shouting and
screaming would upset him, but he seemed to take it completely in
stride. Things were happening so quickly DH never quite got round to
taking him outside. So he got to see his little sister emerging. He's
quite interested in the whole concept of having a little sister, but he
was much more interested in the Upsy Daisy we bought him as the 'present
from the baby'. ;-)

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. Glad I didn't need the clove
and cinnamon recipe, but thanks anyway - I'll pass it on to anyone else
who's having trouble getting started!

All the best,

Sarah

Totally awesome :-) I figured you were probably having the baby when
there was no reply ;-)

Congratulations, you "overtook" me by 20 minutes ;-) (this is a sporting
event, right?). The names are lovely, of course I'm biased on the
Katherine/Kathrin/Katrin and my favourite book as a teenager was
"Abigails Zeitreise" (Abigails timetravel??), unfortunately Abigail
pronounced in german sounds awful.

Ohhhh I'm so glad it went well for you, I'm all bubbly and grinning *lol*

take care!

Well congratulations! I was wondering yesterday, I mean, it does seem
more common to have a slow start, a week or more of frustrating
contractions, but it goes with a bang for some as well! I think everyone
errs on the don't get too excited, be patient kind of response,
because with what you posted, there really isn't any way of being sure.

Congratulations again, enjoy her!

Of course it's a sporting event! I'm going to declare myself as the
unofficial world record holder, 5cm to delivery in 16 minutes, pretty
impressive for a first baby, shame the 2nd wasn't so straightforward!

Congratulations and welcome to Baby Katherine! I love the name (our
son would have been Katheryn Elise if he'd had the right parts). :-)
