Yeah, gotta watch them homeschoolers, and public school and the school
board and the school district, now that's the way to keep an eye on
them.

Who do they think they are keeping their children away from .. well,
away.

Close to 2 million children, it is estimated are home schooled in the US.

The head of the Human Genome project was one.

There you go again with your nonsense. That is an estimate by one of
the poorest of sources, a paid for one customer "research"
organization that produces whatever the boss wants.

It is impossible to accurately estimate the number of homeschooled
children. One issue is that homeschoolers, the majority I believe, do
not full time homeschool from infant to college student. Many children
either utilize public schooling for some subjects and activities, or
drop in and out of PS over the years for various reasons of choice....

And CHOICE is the hallmark of "homeschooling." I know children, now
adults, that were in all kinds of educational programs over the years
as their needs changed.

You cannot pin a number on "children" for this, fern. You sound like a
shill for HSLDA. The majority of homeschoolers abhor this self
serviing politically motivated money grubbing outfit.

They have done more to harm homeschooling than the NEA.

The head of the Human Genome project was one.

Again, to claim a child was "homeschooled" as the public understands
that term (and has been exhibited here) is to ignore that
homeschoolers are about choice in educational opportunities. My own
children had tutors, self taught (rather a lot...wore me to a frazzle
getting them to..before computers..the resources and source persons
they needed), became library research experts, apprenticed, and camped
out in our local woods. I think the latter may have been the most
important "schooling" they did.

Everyone things that "homeschooling" is sitting at the kitchen table,
grinding over books, drilling on spelling or geography so they can win
all those national bees. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Among the majority of homeschoolers 'education' is an ongoing high
adventure. THAT'S what the public is lied to about by the media, and
the stupid and nutcase right wing xian loony fundies.

I asked you....are you one of them? A Christian Fundy? Answer up you
doddering old sot.

See "Talk of the Nation" interview archived on NPR Website.

Beware of populatar media depictions of HSing. They are in the pocket
of (especially NPR) vested interests in showing HSers in the worst
possible light while pretending to neutrality.

If one wants a real picture of HSing, especially the non-fundy and or
secular picture it would be more sensible and informative to check out
various publications and on line sources. I've listed a few here
before, expecially as pertains to spanking......or rather
NON-spanking.

For anyone that is truly interested I can point you to a recent debate
between conservative Xian HSers and liberal public educators. Made the
truly liberal HSers nuts because they were NOT part of the
debate...well, until Nicky Hardenbergh came along.

Explore the PDF file offered on the makeup and content of the debate.
Since my approach to HSing is secular I have a beef with ALL
participants here. I believe HSLDA is in it for the money and the
political power, NOT for education at all. Not in support of any HSing
outside of HSLDA's membership expectations.

Nicky wrote a very thoughtful white paper on this "debate" which is
unfortuneately not available on line at this time. If it become so
I'll referrance it and cite with an URL.

She has very clear view of this attempt by HSLDA to preempt the office
of "homeschooling" and "homeschoolers" with their pretense of
representing any outside their own narror definitions, and they xian
fundy rightwing political agendas.

Some the arguments against HSing..in fact the majority of them, can
trace right to the assumption that these twits in fundy rightist
blathering ARE "homeschooling."

While I am not, as can plainly be seen, in agreement with the
assumptions Ivan makes, it is precisely because he makes assumption
based on a model of HSing that springs from these dodos, who deny
"dodos" as evolutionary facts.

THAT is precisely why I detest HSLDA and its followers...because they
misrepresent, with their infant butt pounding sicknesses and
compusions, what HSing is actually about.

So go suck an egg you doddering old fart.
