Default ugh -- more puke, can you clean a futon??

And I thought the stuffed animals were bad... :P Micah just puked all
over our futon, right after I took the cover off to wash it. Granted,
this is an ancient futon and I'd actually like an excuse to get rid of
it and get a Grown Up Couch instead of the relic from grad school.
BUT, it seems like buying a couch because your toddler just vomited
on/ruined your futon seems to be shortsighted at best. So *is* there
any way to clean and deoderize a futon? I've scrubbed off the bits and
blotted with a wet towel. I'm guessing the steam cleaner isn't going
to do it this time.

And not to whine, but WHY DOES THIS KID ALWAYS GET SICK DURING/RIGHT
BEFORE VACATION?? We're supposed to go to to Tahoe this weekend --
it's really our last chance to take a fun trip before #2 gets here.
I'm going to be so disappointed if we have to cancel (or, more likely,
I stay home with the puker).

I am sorry to hear that Micah is so sick. Unfortunately, the kid's sickness
timing is not very good. I hope she doesn't ruin the vacation.

If it is the same virus that I had, you're in for a tough time. And if it is
the same virus I had, #2 (as in the runs) will really get there. However,
the virus should be gone (if you don't get it, wash your hands a lot,
especially after puke cleaning and diaper changes).

Can't you get a new (or maybe used from a garage sale or something) futon
mattress and just put the cover over it?

I hope your daughter gets better (and you stay better).

I hope the virus that your daughter has is not the norovirus that I had:

I'd soak the spot with an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle or
Simple Solution, and then let it sit until it air dries.

DH thinks it's the norovirus -- so far, we haven't gotten it (I've been
washing hands all day). how long did it take for you to get over it??
Micah seems fine except for the puking -- as in, he puked at 4 and was
running around merrily at 4.30 after I plopped him in the shower.

Thanks; I'll try that. (Hopefully) we'll be gone the weekend so it'll
have time to dry.

About a day until the symptom stopped and another day until I had my
strength back.

If your kid is running around, he doesn't have it.

My 4 year old just puked on our couch on Sunday. My husband looked at
it and asked, "How old is this couch? Do we want a new one??"

I broke out the steam cleaner and the couch still smelled. I thought
about Nature's Miracle, but we were out. So, I mixed up some oxyclean
and sprinkled it on the couch and then sucked it out with the steam
cleaner. The couch now smells fine!

When it happened to us (my stepson puked on our futon mattress back
when he was about 3 or 4), we were lucky enough that he puked on our
bed, when it had all of our covers and bedding on it, which are easily
washable. Some fluid did soak through and into the mattress. I
scrubbed at it with some sort of detergent, and sprayed it with lysol,
and flipped it over, and re-made the bed with the spot on the bottom.

Now, it's about 8 years later, and we still have that mattress, and
it's on my stepson's bed! He's got a full-sized loftbed, and inherited
our double futon when we upgraded to a king-size. The irony is that
the stain is sill there, and quite obvious, (though it looks more like
a urine stain, than a puke stain). But there is no bad smell at all.
So in the end, the damage is mostly just aesthetic. And that's
covered by sheets and such.
