Deadbeat Mothers, Not Fathers

D. Juan Hernandez rebuked the most highly publicized misconglomeration of
divorce data that exists--the "deadbeat dad" child support statistics. After
hearing a what seemed to be a misrepresentation of available figures quoted
by President Clinton during a speech in 1994, that thirty-four BILLION
dollars of unpaid child support was owed to custodial parents, Hernandez
began gathering reports and figures in order to validate the claim. Not
surprisingly, he could not. Instead, he uncovered a gross overstatement of
the amount quoted by Clinton, which was discounted by everyone including
government agencies in charge of compiling such data. The U.S. Census Bureau
corrected Mr. Clinton, informing him that the correct figure was 3 point 7
seven billion, and also advised him that 66% of the non-payers did not have
the ability to pay, leaving 1 point 2 billion, a thirty-three billion dollar
error that helped perpetuate a national misconception. As a matter of fact,
the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
report a very different image of the estranged father in the following data.
First, the U.S. Census Bureau reports:

1) 90.2 % of fathers with joint custody pay all child support ordered.

2) 79.1 % of fathers with visitation rights pay all child support ordered.

3) Even 44.5% of those without any visitation rights financially support
their children.

THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES STATES:

1) 79.6 % of custodial mothers receive court-ordered child support.

2) 29.9 % of custodial fathers receive court-ordered child support.

3) 46.9 % of non-custodial mothers totally default on child support.

4) 26.9 % of non-custodial fathers totally default on child support.

DATA OBTAINED BY ASKING CUSTODIAL PARENTS:

The following figures are for custodial parents:

1) 66.2 % of single mothers work less than full time.

2) 10.2 % of single fathers work less than full time.

3) 7.0 % of single mothers work more than 44 hours per week.

4) 24.5 % of single fathers work more than 44 hours per week.

5) 46.2 % of single mothers receive public assistance.

6) 20.8 % of single fathers receive public assistance.

Bill Clinton continually used the "deadbeat dad" plank to rouse public
sentiment for his election campaigns in order to portray a concerned
parental image. Unfortunately, media coverage of statements like these and
prevailing attitudes have created a poor image for the divorced dad, when in
reality, most are doing their best to do the right thing for their children.

well what is a father supposed to do when the mother disappears with
the children after receiving a court order for support...and can't get
this changed or nothing because of the "dead beat father" prejudice.
Father now owes $40 000 for kids he can never find to see, and his life
is screwed for all means of credit to maintain a life to pay this
support..
I can't believe people even as mothers would want to see anybodies
child living on the steets because of this kinds of prejudice. Don't
believe me take a trip to Toronto and meet a friend of mine.. Some
mothers can be so vendictive..is it really about the children or
themselves.

Some fathers, such as me, are lucky enough to have full custody of
their children due to a deadbeat mother. Their mother dropped them off
in another state to fend for themselves so she could go party. My son
called me and asked where his mother was. It wasnt hard to get custody
after that. I have had them for 6 years now. It is sometimes difficult
to do as a man, but the kids are getting older now, and I know how
lucky I am. They are great kids, and I will do everything in my power
to give them a safe home, and a safe upbringing. Having control over my
finances makes this easy to do. The money that was sent to her while
she had custody was not spent on the children, as they came to me with
****ty underwear and literally rags for clothes.

Document everything - i would takes pics today - (didnt then) and get a
lawyer if you have a crazy mother like this endangering your children.

Again, if the Government is using force to collect money for a specific
purpose, why can't they be held accountable if that money is not used for
that purpose?

Simple, it wouldn't be "politically correct" to do so - the politicians
would loose the radfem vote and never hold office again.

The above is like saying "trade ALL your assets for lottery tickets because
you can win; afterall, I won millions".
