Does anyone else lose interest in food?
When I was pregnant with Bonnie I used to get yelled at for not eating
enough, which I did enjoy just a tad due to my large stature, and also got yelled at for losing weight. Anyway I seemed to have lost 8 lbs. in the last month without dieting and I promise I have not been exercising, Ha Ha Ha, Anyway I am already losing interest in food and it takes me FOREVER to pick something to eat and by then I have had my mind on eating so long that I am STARVING so then it ends up being something not necessarily healthy. For instance I have encouraged hubby to drive 2 towns over for Mc Donald's because nothing in the house sounded right and then it was too late to cook it. I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and how you have solved it. I know most people would go "yippee I lost 8 lbs." But I got Lectured a bunch for not eating when I was not hungry and not interested in food. I want to avoid that this time. Tori -- Bonnie 3/20/02 #2 Due Date 10/17/04 Remove OBLIVIOUS To respond |

Never did get that big pregnancy appetite people told me would come. I'd not have eaten anything if it hadn't made morning sickness worse. My dr. with #1 gave me some good advice. "eat what you fancy, when you fancy and don't worry about it". I've found that very good at stopping me feel guilty after eating junk. I wasn't weighed for #1 (the drs scales didn't work) and #2 only weighed me at 20 weeks to check I hadn't lost too much. I'd lost a bit but not majorly so they didn't worry again. Debbie |

I have lost weight in all of my pregnancies. First pg (ended at 21 weeks), I lost about 20 lbs. Second pg (42 weeks), I lost about 40 lbs. This pg, 29 week right now and I'm down about 17-19 lbs from pre-pg weight. The thing is, I had the weight to lose - it's hardly putting me in the realm of being anorexic or even thin! - and it just seems to be how my body reacts to pg. All three times, I've been very sick in the first 18-20 weeks - not so sick that I couldn't keep water/fluids down but to where I could only eat a very small number of things, and fought m/s all day long. It's manageable but not pleasant. Then, when I do get my appetite back (which in my second pregnancy happened only with using Phenergan for about a week to break the "cycle"), my metabolism is really revved up and I can eat whatever I want/need to without gaining a thing. My OB's have never been thrilled about it, but since I've been able to tell them honestly that I'm eating plenty of healthy food (as well as some "junk" food), there really isn't anything else to be done about it. I get exercise in the way of walking, hanging out with my DD, cleaning house, etc... so I can't really cut back there. The baby is growing well, so it appears that I'm actually continuing to lose weight as the baby gets bigger - and if we're both doing fine, that's all they can ask for! BTW, one thing that helped me when I had no interest in food was eating in buffet style restaurants. Reading a menu (which involves picturing the food and deciding what you want) would turn me off entirely - but getting one spoonful of this with a bisquit and 3 bites of fruit really worked well for me. Also, not allowing yourself to get ravenous might work - just keep some snacks around so that you aren't starving hungry before trying to decide what to eat. hth - kellie edd 7-04 |

I gained weight at a steady rate, but I must admit I ate only for the baby. Food really lost it's appeal, even though I never got morning sickness or felt ill. I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and how you have solved it. I know most people would go "yippee I lost 8 lbs." I am assuming Bonnie came out just fine ? If so, use her as an example to shut people up ! -- Baby, I can't wait to meet you ! EDD: 10-Apr-2004 |
