No, Dutch. I know Jens is a Danish name though :-). My SIL is Swedish
(from Skane, so that's almost Denmark ;-) ), that's as close to being
Scandinavian as I can get at the moment.

Kind regards

Hi,

I posted a birth announcement of our son Jens a couple of days ago but I
didn't see it show up so I guess it got stuck somewhere. Anyway, I
promised I'd post the birth story later, so here it is. It is, happily,
not al long story :-).

Congratulations.

Are you Scandinavian?

Tine, Denmark, mother of Niels and Karen.

Thanks Emily! I was pretty pleased about that myself :-).
I wish you all the best in your upcoming birth!

Congrats, Cath! That sounds like a lovely birth. Being
at 9cm already on your first internal sounds just wonderful!

Thanks! Enjoying myself has been no problem so far, My 2 year old DD is
taking things much better than I expected and so far Jens is pretty easy
going. Jens is a Danish name, isn't it. It's getting quite popular in
the Netherlands too.

Kind regards,
Cath

First the 'essentials': Jens was born on august the 10th,

Congratulations!

Be sure to remember to enjoy your new motherhood in spite of having two
small children to care for. And remember to get some sleep!

BTW: Nice name. My firstborn is named Jens ;-)

We have the same taste in names - I'm the mother of Karen (12 - more
common now, but not then) and Niels (not a single other Niels in sight)

Nice names!

Worst names? I was only a kid when my mother forced me to take dancing
lessons. Two girls - twins - were attending, too. They were alike, perfect
blonds, wore very girlish, pink dresses and were, in my young opinion,
snobs. They were called "Helle" and "Lykke", which both are perfectly good
names by themselves. But also a play over the saying "Held og lykke" (which
is said when someone wishes another good luck).

PS To AGSF... You said you were still confused about what I meant by my
ship never came in. I am a doctor of chiropractic. Part of the job of
EVERY doctor - whatever his professional stripes - is to expose the fraud
and deception of doctors. See the AMA's Principles of Medical Ethics. My
ship never came in - I still have not been paid for my job with
recognition/success. Worse, babies are still being subjected to the
gruesome (sometimes fatal) massive spinal manipulation crime of
obstetricians - because - for example - instead of simply ending the grisly
obstetric birth-canal-closing fraud - Enkin used Lilford's fraud to
cover-up/censor.

Medical doctors persist in their gruesome massive birth frauds; so I persist
in my unpaid job.

See again: Lilford's fraud (also: Dutch midwives/homebirth) - was Birth

Eventually my ship will come in.

In that case, stay single because women are dream killers. Once you
have accomplished your goal, then look into partaking a wife. After
all, it's not fair to her when you dedicate all your time into your
mission instead of focusing on her and your family.

Good luck to you.

This woman dreamed with me for the longest time.

She chose to stop dreaming with me and do other life-dreaming.

Or perhaps she finally decided to WAKE UP and actually live the life dream
instead of sleeping through life.

Perhaps her departure is my cue to do the same - finally.

I know, I know - these last notions are confusing - I myself do not have a
good handle on them - but I am thoroughly enjoying the source - Freke and
Gandy's Laughing Jesus [2005].

The dramas of Literalist Religion of all faiths (and other authority-driven
enterprises) have us all sleeping through life and ignoring our oneness with
each other - at least that's my interpretation of Laughing Jesus.

Once you
have accomplished your goal, then look into partaking a wife.

If I find another woman who shares my goal - if I find myself attracted to
her - and she to me - I suppose we will "partake" of each other.

I am thinking though the "man-wife" thing will never happen again for me
(famous last words - LOL!).

Then again, I would take my wife back in an instant if she were willing to
come back - but she isn't.

After
all, it's not fair to her when you dedicate all your time into your
mission instead of focusing on her and your family.

Very true.

Good luck to you.

Thanks.

Todd

Some background on the Dutch system - as you usually give birth at home
or in the 'short stay' dept of the hospital (in hospital but with your
midwife, and you're discharged right away), you get a sort of doula for
the first week to help you with the baby and the household, and make
sure you rest enough, and take care of the other kids etc. We call it
'kraamhulp', I have no translation but will refer to her as Marina, that
was her name. Normally they arrive during labour to assist the midwife,
but because I was already at 9 cm when the midwife arrived Marina
arrived a bit late, just as I was pushing out the head at 2pm.

Jens is doing really well so far, nurses really well, on day 6 he was
already over his birthweight! He want to nurse every three hours or so
which comes as a bit of a shock to me as DD wanted to nurse every other
minute :-). But as he's already over his birthweight he seems to know
what he's doing...

Congratulations on the birth of Jens! I think larger babies might feed less
often -- at least, DS2 was 4130g at birth and has fewer feeds than DS1 did
(DS1 was a 'mere' 3765g!). DS2 has almost doubled his birth weight and is not
yet 3 months old!

The kraamhulp sounds like a great idea; I especially like the way they are
present at delivery and continue care of the mother afterwards. Is
post-partum depression reduced in the Netherlands as a result? What other
benefits has it had?
