scary then, funny now.
Today, while I was at work, my wife Beth (I guess I'm supposed to say DW,
right?) took our boy (our twins turn 2 next Thursday) outside to put some mail in the mailbox. Our girl, Abby, locked the door, from the inside. This freaked Beth out, as she couldn't get to Abby, and was locked outside with Jacob. (In TX, our temperatures are still in the 90's. Plus Beth is in the first trimester of PG and not feeling too well. She went to several neighbors' houses to find a phone to borrow to call me, but nobody was home. She finally found someone around the corner. She called me, crying, and I rushed home and made what is usually a 1 hour drive into a 25-minute one. Abby stayed inside next to the window the whole time, happily playing, never knew anything was wrong. It's all better now, but really freaked us out. Parenthood is bringing new surprises every day. Don't think I did anything like this as a kid. All the stories my mom tells me about stuff I did was more on the cute stuff, and involved poop. Oh well. We are thankful that nothing bad happened. |

I'm glad everything worked out!!
My first born was probably around the same age when I went out, in the rain to get the mail.....well, this is when we discovered he could now reach the deadbolt as the prankster promptly locked me out!!....Luckily we have several neighbors that have someone home during the day, whether retired, WAH or SAHM's.....So while I waited in the backyard trying to soothe my little man (he had started bawling at this point) at the sliding glass door I decided to give the bedroom door a try....not much of a chance since its ALWAYS locked but maybe I could have jimmied somehow.....well what do you know...it was unlocked!!! LOL......from then on I have always had my keys with me! lesson learned! Gwen |

He was buckled in his seat and cried the whole 20 minutes it took to get someone to come and open the door. What an experience. -- Erin Morgan and Megan 2/15/97 Evan 5/14/00 |

I locked the boys in the house and me out, by accident, last year. I was
hyperventilating, doing the best I could to motion to them to get them to turn the doorknob. Poor Ryan was crying. We tried both the front door and the kitchen door. One of them finally got the kitchen door open. Phew! It's still not funny to me... :-P Stephanie Jake and Ryan 9/3/99 |

I'm glad everything worked out all right.
I locked myself out when I was babysitting for a baby when I was in college. I went going down to the basement to get something, like a can of formula, and closed the door behind me so the baby wouldn't fall down the stairs. I didn't know the door would lock behind me! There was a door to the outside in the basement so I went out there and went around and tried the front door, but of course it was locked. The baby was having a great time crawling all over the house while I was outside completely freaking out. I just knew he was going to fall down the stairs or get hurt some other way! I went to the neighbor's house and got a spare key. I told the parents about it when they got home and they just laughed about it. It took many hours for my heart to start beating normally again.
