Default anyone else have a very large breastfed kid?

I forgot to say he was born weighing about the same as your DD, 9lbs2oz

Zach weighed 18 lbs at 4 mos--he was a chub! FWIW, he slowed way down

after
he hit a year and is now the skinniest of all of his buddies, weighing

24lbs
at 18mos.
It appears that when he lived soley on mommy's milk, he grew much more
rapidly. He still nurses, but is almost completely on regular food and

he's
not too fond of eating all that much.

Hm, according to the CDC chart, Meg is -- hovering slightly above. She

was
born at 9lbs3, 22". She's now just a few ounces shy of 16 pounds and I
expect her to hit 16 by 3 months (just a few days away). I think she's

26
inches by now; I measured her maybe 10 days ago at 25.5"

I realize I should stop measuring her but I would know anyway by the

diaper
sizes. She is moving into the next size of cloth wraps & paper diaps

just
where the boxes say -- 16lbs.

Is this because the charts use both formula fed and breastfed kids? Did
anybody have a particularly aggressive grower like me?

Mom to Meg, almost 3 months.

Yes! Our DD is 12 weeks, is 25" or so and weighs around 15 lbs and is
also ebf. According to our ped, bf babies can gain weight and height
very quickly in the first 6 months and then level off in the 2nd 6
months. So size at 3 mos is not an indicator of how big or small they
will end up.

I just read my mum's notes about my brother yesterday and he was 8lb
7oz at birth, 11 lbs a week later, and IIRC, 17 lbs at just shy of 3 months.

She didn't nurse much longer than that, I dont' think, but until then he
appears to have been pretty much breast fed (and certainly the week
later weight was just bm) He never lost weight, was always a very big
kid, and I remember when he was ~6mo we had to be careful of other
people holding him as they expected he would stand when they set him
down, just due to his size.

Don't be overly surprised if it levels off around 7 mo, as breastfed
babies tend to do that. The charts are for both ff and bf babies and
are based on a population that tends to have large babies (as opposed to
say a popn with a higher proportion of Asian babies, who tend to be
smaller) This according to the breastfeeding specialist I talked to
about DS's weight plateau.

I know that feeling, my little boy (15) is 6'6"....and still
growing! Your daughter is quite a bit taller than mine
though, she is 12 but only 5'3", and I thought she was tall
for her age, your daughter must be VERY tall. I expect Tessa
will do a growth spurt soon though, this is about the age
they shoot up.

Out of curiosity how tall is she? I have two 4.4 year old
girls and one is 112cm's 43/4" and the other 109cm's 42/43",
I keep getting told her tall they are but they are both
within range according to my growth chart.

Oh, wow ,Andrea--that must be quite a feeling to look that far up at your baby!

Your daughter is quite a bit taller than mine

She is. You would think she was 16 or so to look at her, but she still likes
to sit in her room and play with her Barbies. :-)

Emily started with all that early, strange because I was a late bloomer myself.
I'm not sure exactly how much more I should expect her to grow.

Andrea, I wish you would post your kids' names and ages. I know it takes a
long time g but I haven't seen them all written down for awhile and I've lost
track!

The up side...I was never worried about milk supply :-D. People were in a
tizzy over solids but all I had to say was 'Clearly...he is getting enough'
and they could hardly argue with that!

My family was the same way. When they would find out the boys weren't
eating many solids, they would say that I was *starving* the poor
things. I just asked them to change the baby's diaper so they could
see all the fat rolls.

My boys have all been what the OP called "aggressive growers". The
two oldest were off the charts for most of their first year, and my
third is following suit. They are 5 and 7 now, and are very average
compared to their classmates. I have to keep reminding myself of that
when I look at DS#3 or I become afraid he's going to be a giant.

DS#1
At birth – 9lbs, 1oz
3 months – 16 lbs
6 months – 22 lbs, 12 oz

DS#2 (my *small* baby)
At birth – 8lbs, 5 oz
3 months – 14 ½ lbs

DS#3
At birth – 10lbs
4 weeks – 14lbs
8 weeks – 16 ½ lbs
3 months – 20 lbs

It's a big dent in 6'4" hubby's ego too, always being the
'tall' one and now having to look up to his 15 year old who
takes great delight in patting him on the head as he walks
past....lol

Yup it's a strange time, caught between dolls and dating.

She hasn't done a spurt at all yet, I didn't do mine until i
was around 14 so she has a while, the think that worries me
is the longer she takes to do it the taller she may end up.
Being 6'2" only really looks good on boys ;-)

I'll put my alternate sig on the bottom so you can see them,
and there's a link where you can see some photos. I need
some updated ones of Lydia though.

My daughter was 20 pounds at 4 months old. Her rolls of fat had rolls of
fat.

By 6 months she was 24 pounds. By 1 year she was 27 pounds.

At almost 2 she was *still* 27 pounds. One week she ate like a horse and put
on 3 pounds in one week, had a checkup where the doc scolded me because she
was 50th perc. in height and up there in weight, I shrugged it off and she
sprouted up shortly after (as I knew she would.)

At age 4 she was 44 pounds.

By age 8, she was about 83 pounds.

At age 10, she was STILL 83 pounds. Then a few months ago she started eating
like a horse and has shot up several inches in a few months. Heck, one of
those inches was literally overnight one night--she got up and said, "Mom,
my feet are smaller." I said, "No hon, they're just farther away."

But I think she's still in the 85 pound range--and scrawny from growing so
fast.

But back when she was 3 months old and gaining almost a pound a week
(newborn almost 8. 2 weeks 9+. 1 month 12 lb, 2 months 15 pounds. 3 months
17 pounds, 4 months 20 pounds, 5 months 22 pounds... ) we swore she was
going to be the world's first 6 foot tall 150 pound 3 year old. Yet at 3 she
was just about 35 pounds.

Go figure. My point is that they do slow down. A lot. And I suspect that
she'll have far fewer problems with her weight than any of the rest of us in
the family--at her age I was really getting pudgy and didn't slim back down
until I was 14 or 15.

lol!

My daughter is actually a little bit behind many of her classmates... and
she was gargantuan as a baby.
