The Bigger They Are.

Email F. Edward Yazbak

1998:

I. Andrew Wakefield publishes in the Lancet. The Public Health Officials:
Only 12 cases

II. Peltola and friends also publish in the Lancet; the study is funded by
Merck.
.. The Public Health Officials: This is a great study of 1.8 million
individuals followed for 14 years vs. just 12 cases. MMR does not cause
autism.
.. Parents are not convinced.
.. M. Kielinen (1) reports a striking increase in autism in Finland.
.. The Peltola study and several others by the same group fade away.

1999:

Taylor and friends publish in the Lancet; the study is supported by the MCA
and PHLS.
.. The Public Health Officials: This is a great study of almost 500 cases
vs. Only 12 cases. MMR does not cause autism.
.. Parents are not convinced.
.. Taylor refuses to disclose his raw data.
.. His conclusions are rejected by Roger at a meeting of the National
Statistical Society on March 28, 2000
.. His methodology is criticized by Madsen in 2002 (NEJM).
.. The Taylor study fades away. So does Taylor II.

2001:

Kaye and friends publish in the BMJ. The study is not funded by anyone but
the authors are employed by the Boston Collaborative Drug Surveillance
Program which is supported by a dozen or more drug companies.
.. The Public Health Officials say: This is a great study of hundreds of
children over several years vs. Only 12 cases. MMR does not cause autism.
.. Parents are not convinced.
.. The study is criticized by researchers in the UK (including Liam Smeeth
in the BMJ), US, Canada, Denmark and Sweden.
.. The Kaye study fades away.

2002:

Madsen and friends publish in the NEJM. The study is co-funded by the CDC
and criticizes the studies by Taylor, Kaye and others.
.. The Public Health Officials say: This is the best study ever and
absolutely the "last word": 537,303 subjects and 2,129,864 person-years vs.
Only 12 cases. MMR does not cause autism.
.. Parents are not convinced.
.. The study affects the MMR class action suit in the UK and a report by a
special committee of the Institute of Medicine in the US.
.. On September 1, 2004 both Goldman and Stott (2, 3) contradict Madsen and
conclusively demonstrate that autistic spectrum disorders did significantly
increase in Denmark after the introduction of the MMR.
.. Madsen's study is fading.

2004:

Smeeth and friends publish in the Lancet .

Meanwhile,
.. Hundreds of cases of autistic entero-colitis have been diagnosed in
several medical centers
.. Measles virus genomic RNA has been identified in the gut wall (vaccine
strain-compatible) and recently in the CSF (4).
.. Autism is now epidemic (5, 6) and the US Department of Health and Human
Services, the CDC and the AAP have circulated an Autism A.L.A.R.M.
reporting an incidence of 1 in 166. (7)
.. The parents are still concerned, as they should be
.. A whole generation has been lost.

Just in case you are interested, the ilium is part of the intestines, not
the brain.

Several different groups have tried to find a link between autism and
vaccines. They failed. Why: There is no link.
