Still in Shock

"Tracy" wrote in Are you saying that a woman wouldn't be charged with a crime if the father was raising the child and she wasn't helping, or what? I can see your point to a point. I'm asking why it is a crime for just one parent of either sex to raise a child on their own? Does raising one child take two salaries? There is much more than raising a child than providing financial care. In my opinion the answer to your first question is that it isn't a crime, but it is a dysfunctional family when a child is raised by only one parent. Children brought up in dysfunctional families have a much higher chance of becoming adults suffering from many different emotional problems. These children will then turn around and create more dysfunctional families because they don't know any better. One of the largest causes of the whole problem within the family court system is dysfunctional families and the impact on society. So do we think there is a perfect formula for creating good human being? In answering your second question, of course it does not require two salaries to raise a child. There is an advantage when one parent does not work while the other parent does work within intact families. The advantage is child care costs, emotional stress due to tight schedules, and the children have someone at home when they arrive home. Truth is, both parents are rarely home to greet the kids, they are too busy working to pay off the massive morgages these days. Kids running amuck is not a good thing, but there is no social program that is going to cure that. The good old days of Dad working, mom baking in the kitchten are long gone, now we a have equality where mom is out making her career too. |

So do we think there is a perfect formula for creating good human being? Nope, since you'll find some really balanced people out there who were raised differently. There are some basics fundamental things that should exist, like stability & consistency. In answering your second question, of course it does not require two salaries to raise a child.
