ACES back in the news...missed this one.
Article published Tuesday, May 4, 2004
Woman guilty of taking money A former administrative assistant at a national child support organization founded in Toledo was convicted yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court of forging the executive director's signature on checks and using the money to pay her bills. Patricia L. Redieck, 36, of 1752 Brame St., pleaded no contest to 10 counts of forgery and one count of grand theft for stealing money belonging to the Association for Children for Enforcement of Support. Redieck, who was terminated last year, was found guilty by Judge Charles Wittenberg. She will be sentenced June 7. Assistant Prosecutor Jevne Meader said Redieck faked the signature of Geraldine Jensen, founder of ACES, on checks and used the money for personal expenses, including a car loan, rent, and her son's high school tuition. The 10 checks in the prosecution amounted to just over $5,000, but Mr. Meader said Redieck forged Ms. Jensen's signature on numerous other checks and also forged her signature on credit card accounts. Mr. Meader said the loss to ACES could easily exceed $50,000. Ms. Jensen, who formed the organization in 1984, said she believes the figure is closer to $83,000. Ms. Jensen turned over the duties of director to Debbie Kline of Cleveland, and the home office of ACES moved last year from Toledo to Fredericksburg, Va. |
