My last birth was SO
stressful that I wonder if a nice, scheduled, predictable c-section
wouldn't lead to a blessedly more stress-free birth. It's a tough
decision.

Wendy

Cos they're not always predictable. I never anticipated no anesthesia.
Just something to keep in mind - not even very, very, scheduled c-sections
are a guarantee of everything going well.

Sophie, when you say you never anticipated no anethesia what do you
mean? Sorry, I may have missed something. But you make a good point.
Birth is unpredictable no matter how well you have it planned out. Maybe
that is what's drving me nuts. There are so many unforseeable
circumstances. I am really trying to make a decision that would be 100%
optimal and safe for me and baby but I really don't think there is one.

My spinal did not take with Lewis (c-section #3). I had heard other people
talk about that and thought "what Dr would let that happen? No way" - well
now I know. I felt everything from them shaving me to stapling me closed.
You never think it will happen to you. This c-section was planned soooo
long before I even got pregnant, so how could something go wrong?

May I ask why they continued if you were able to feel it? I'm assuming
that you were unable to tell them, but I would like to ask anyway.

Yes I could tell them, I was screaming, yelling, you name it. Not sure,
partly the anesthesiologist was an ass and rank may have been a factor (Navy
hospital). If the anesthesiologist outranked the OB he may not have wanted
to say something. Don't know. I know *now* why the spinal didn't take,
I'll never know why they continued anyway.

You took all the suspense out of that one when #4 was a singleton, you
know. In the movie version of your life, it would have been twins.

Oh my heavens. Sophie, I had no idea. I'm sure you've explained this
before and I somehow just missed it, but I just didn't know. I'd
assumed all this time that the staff had no idea that you could feel
the surgery. This is one of the most horrifying stories I have ever
read. I am stunned. Your bravery in being willing to have another
baby and risk this again is positively heroic. Nolan is very lucky to
be here. Sheesh, so is that anesthesiologist!

Well we were going to make sure, even if we had to go in town and pay for
it, that it wouldn't happen again. My Dr was great. If he hadn't been I
would have switched. I knew even then I'd still have another. Had to have
4
