You think? I know a pretty big group of Samaras, actually. It's a Hebrew
name, not particularly uncommon among Jews in the northeastern states....

I've already heard three or four people get corrected by her parents when
they said her name. It's a pretty name, but I think she's in for a lifetime
of correcting unless she learns to really accentuate the first letter when
she first meets people. Oh well, you should see what people try to do to
Melissa when they spell it around here.

I'm curious as to what they do - Melissa seems like such a
staightforward name to spell.

Well, DH's boss' wife is M'Lissa and people often try to make my name
Mellisa (or a double s). I think in this city, people are so used to
'different' and creative spellings of names they're afraid to give anyone
the usual spelling.

A friend of mine just named her son Parker as well. I think it's a good
name.

It's funny, but I've heard of at least 3 other Addison Grace's out in the
world -- I don't know any of them peronally, but I've heard friends or
relatives tell me about running across them. It's like there is something
in the water, or something!

I wonder if people are less critical of a name after it is given because
the name 'grows' on the child or in some way just 'fits'? When we heard
a family member was going to name her son Parker we were all kind of
like hmmmm.....
But now I love the name and it just seems like the cutest name for the
cutest little boy and I cannot imagine him being named anything else. A
friend of mine who recently had a baby named her "Eliana" which no one
seems to like, (I think it's cute) but I imagine people will warm up to
that name, too.

I don't think that's always true. I do think that
there are names that people don't like in a vacuum, but
when you attach them to a child they know, they have a
real, genuine change of heart about the name.

I know a little girl named Laramie. (For those outside the U.S., it's
the name of a city in Wyoming.) If I'd just *heard about* the name, I
probably would've rolled my eyes - but since it's attached to one of
the most charming and enjoyable children I've ever met, I'm totally
cool with it.
