Not sure where to ask this...
Don't know where to go (other than the doc, obviously) to find a possible
answer to this question. DD2 is 5 months old now. Everything's been fine. She's nursing only, I'm taking that micronor (sp? - mini-pill) and haven't had an actual period since she was born. My bleeding stopped within a month or so, then about a month, maybe month and a half later, I had a bit more bleeding, but I think I did that myself by over doing it when I shoveled my aunt and uncle's sidewalks. Now, to put it simply, and apologies if this next bit is TMI, but my junk hurts! I've been feeling it for about a week or so now... The best way I can describe it is how I felt right after DD2 was born (actually, all of them, but DD2 is the most recent for memory) and the stitches I had. It really feels like I have stitches again and a newborn, but I don't. It's not exactly painful, but it's irritating and a bit sore. I haven't been doing anything differently in the past couple months since I started to feel like my body was going back to normal again. I haven't been using any pads of any sort since right after DD2 was born, and I haven't used tampons since before I was pg. Actually, since before I was pg with DD1 (now 20 months) There's been no crazy, wild nights of sex, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing changed as far as anything goes, really. I've used the same laundry detergent, have had basically the same diet, shower the same as I always have. I just feel like I'm sore and "healing" again, although I definitely have long ago passed that. I don't think it would be a bladder or UTI, as I can pee just fine. Anyone have anything similar? I definitely didn't have this after the other 3 (7yr, 6yr, 20mo) and this is definitely something that has come up recently. Any ideas? Thought I'd try here to possibly get some ideas before I go to see my doctor. |

Probably best thing to do would be to try an anti-thrush treatment - I'd start with a clotrimazole pessary, but if that didn't work then oral fluconazole would be OK (it's been used in babies before, so the traces in the milk would be safe). I was also on micronor after the birth of 3 of 5 kids. The stuff you
are talking about sounds like the same thing I did ask the Dr. about. He took a look down there and said that I was having period symptoms without bleeding, very slight swelling and extra blood flow there can make it feel almost like starting of yeast infection. You might notice that you get PMS just without bleeding. I didn't have periods for 2yrs while BF and taking micronor. Good luck to you and if anything get worse for sure see your doc. |

It's kind of funny, since I seem to have the opposite to deal with. I took nothing after DS2 was born. I was bfing him and didn't get a period for a long time. I can't remember how long, but I know it was over a year. With DD1, the same thing, only she nursed only until about 5ish months, and at that point she had started to lose a lot of weight and we switched her to the bottle and found she had rapid weight gain and was a totally different baby. When DD1 was 6 months old, we found out we were expecting DD2 - again, with DD1, I took nothing. Now, DD2 is 5 months old. I've taken the micronor since the beginning of Jan. I've had what seems to be light periods since I started the micronor. They seem to last about as long as my periods tend to last, and are the same length of cycle that I normally had in the past. DD2 is also exclusively breastfed... We tried to give her a couple bottles of EBM when she was about a month old, but for the last 3 or so months, she has outwardly, absolutely refused a bottle of EBM. Haven't tried her on any type of formula, and have no desire or intention to do so, and she nurses fantastically. She also doesn't eat solids - we tried when we thought she wanted it, but she definitely didn't and gave it up. Tried to offer around 4ish months every now and then, but I think we tried only a handful of days and I bet she maybe tried about a tbsp in total. So, basically, she is only bf. The doc said with the micronor I might get a period on a regular basis, I might get one whenever it feels like coming or I might get none at all. I was told the same thing with BFing when the first was a newborn... But, when I do get a period, I find these odd symptoms seem to disappear. Maybe it could be a reaction from after a period from using pads? Maybe a strange PMS effect? It's just so odd... I will definitely see the doc if it gets worse. |

If it is or isn't thrush, should I try to treat it anyways? Hm... What I mean is, would it be safe and basically no harm done if I treat and it's not thrush or should you treat for thrush only if it is thrush? I'd rather not go to the doc if I don't absolutely have to... It is seriously not a fun situation to take all the kids out for a doc appointment of any sort... I remember DD1's 18 month checkup and DD2's 6 week checkup... Squeezed both girls in at the same time, DD1 a bit early, DD2 slightly late and I had to call DH at work, as I cried like a baby, to come to the doc's office because I just couldn't do it. I just couldn't do it and couldn't handle it. All the kids were crying, I was crying... Not a good scene at all (which is the reason I'd much rather not go for appointments if I do not absolutely have to...) From what you were saying I was assuming this was vaginal thrush - sorry if I've misinterpreted the euphemism! You wouldn't pass vaginal thrush on the same way you would breast thrush. If it is or isn't thrush, should I try to treat it anyways? Hm... What I mean is, would it be safe and basically no harm done if I treat and it's not thrush or should you treat for thrush only if it is thrush? Not a problem - go right ahead. Clotrimazole and Fluconazole are both available over the counter in the UK, though I don't know about the USA. If it isn't thrush, you'll be out a few dollars. Lots of women self-treat for thrush.
