Default Pregnancy Trivia Quiz - the 30% trivia question...

ANN ASKS IN HER PREGNANCY TRIVIA QUIZ^^^

By what percentage does your pelvis EXPAND when you are squatting?

ANSWER: 20 to 30%

^^^Source: The Unofficial Guide to Having A Baby by Ann Douglas and John R.
Sussman, M.D. (Macmillan, $15.95 U.S./$23.95 Cdn.1999.)
http://www.canadianparents.com/articles/feature80e.htm (EXPAND emphasis
added)

WHY NOT PUT THE QUESTION THIS WAY...

By what percentage does your pelvic outlet CLOSE when you are placed in
medicine's most common delivery positions (semisitting or dorsal)?

ANSWER: Up to 30%...

***WARNING: OBs are knowingly closing birth canals up to 30%.

It's EASY for pregnant women to allow their birth canals to OPEN the "extra"
up to 30%. See MANY delivery positions, below...

***WARNING: With birth canals senselessly closed up to 30%, OBs are pushing
violently on tiny spines (with oxytocin, Cytotec, PGE2) and pulling
gruesomely (with hands, forceps, vacuums)...

Some babies die, some babies are paralyzed - most "only" have their necks
gruesomely wrenched.

ALL spinal manipulation is gruesome with the birth canal closed up to 30%.

For simple PROOF that OBs are knowingly closing birth canals...

See ACOG vs. Homebirth
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/message/2528

(This just cited post, ACOG vs. Homebirth, has important info for women
planning HOSPITAL births.)

MANY delivery positions...

Of course, squatting is just one of MANY delivery positions that allow the
pelvis to OPEN the "extra" up to 30%.

Ann and John's birth book probably says this...

However, Ann and John's birth book probably does NOT state that medicine's
most common delivery positions - semisitting and dorsal - CLOSE the birth
canal up to 30%.

MOST birth books - and most "alternative" birth gurus - don't state this
fact.

See Henci Goer's mysterious silence about a White Elephant Fact...
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/message/2336

See also: ICAN and The Pink Kit: a dark side (Wintergreen is wrong)
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/message/2279

Note: ICAN used to be the "Cesarean Prevention Movement" yet ICAN is
failing to tell the world that obstetricians are CAUSING cephalopelvic
disproportion then performing c-sections BEcause of cephalopelvic
disproportion!

With OBs routinely closing birth canals up to 30%, we must ask ourselves WHY
most birth books and "alternative" birth gurus don't explicitly state that
OBs are knowingly closing birth canals up to 30%.

If Ann and John don't explicitly state this bizarre fact of obstetrics,
hopefully they will do so in their next
edition.

ANN DOUGLAS

Ann is "frequently quoted in the media"...

Ann Douglas is the author of The Unofficial Guide to Childcare
http://www.childcare-guide.com. Baby Science How Babies Really Work
http://www.babyscience.com and The Unofficial Guide to Having A Baby
http://www.having-a-baby.com. She writes the monthly "Mom's the Word" column
for Canadian Parents Online and is a regular contributor to a number of
print and online publications. She and her husband Neil have four children
under the age of ten. Ann is frequently quoted in the media on a range of
parenting-related topics, and has appeared as a guest on a number of
television and radio shows. She can be contacted via her management firm,
Page One Productions Inc. .
http://www.canadianparents.com/articles/feature80e.htm

At the very least, maybe Ann will say something about OBs routinely closing
birth canals up to 30% in her next "Mom's the Word" column for Canadian
Parents Online?

JOHN R. SUSSMAN, MD

Ann's co-author John R. Sussman, MD, is "an obstetrician-gynecologist in
private practice in New Milford, CT...[and]...president of the medical staff
at New Milford Hospital, where he founded and runs the Preparation for
Pregnancy seminars."
http://my.webmd.com/content/Biography/7/1756_53811.htm

John has reportedly delivered 2000+ babies - including one of his own.

If John is like most American OBs he closes birth canals up to 30%.

NOTE: Most American OBs KEEP the birth canal closed when shoulders get
stuck AND ALSO while they pull with forceps or vacuums!

Again, see the simple PROOF that OBs are knowingly closing birth canals:

See again: ACOG vs. Homebirth
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/message/2528

AT NEW MILFORD HOSPITAL (Connecticut)

"Every obstetrician and nurse on our maternity team brings the highest
caliber of expertise to the birth of your baby."
http://www.newmilfordhospital.org/se..._maternity.htm

Since New Milford Medical staff President John knows about the 30% - maybe
he's been making sure birth
canals *aren't* closed up to 30% at New Milford Hospital?

That would be so cool!

If not, maybe John could give a talk on this subject in the Health Forum at
New Milford Hospital (Active May 06, 2004 to Jun 23, 2004)...
http://www.volunteersolutions.org/vc...tem_id=1478458

Bad news...

I just spoke to Pat at New Milford Hospital by calling the Family Birthing
Center Education Line at: 860-350-7248.

The phone rang and rang and finally the hospital operator answered and
connected me with Pat...

Pat told me that pushing babies out while semisitting is "pretty standard"
at New Milford Hospital.

In other words, it's "pretty standard" at New Milford to close the birth
canal up to 30%.

I wasn't surprised. MOST hospitals do this!

MORE BAD NEWS...

The 2004 edition of Ann and John's book illustrates birth with the birth
canal closed! (See my comment to their illustrators, Articulate Graphics
below.)

ARRGGGHHH! Ann and John in effect advise closing the birth canal up to 30%
in second stage!

On p. 732: "Put gravity to work...Pushing in a semisitting or semisquatting
position may make it easier for your pelvis to open up...by 20 to 30%..."
(!)

On p. 733: "...allow your partner or labor support person to help you into
a semisitting...position..." (!)

Semisitting CLOSES the birth canal up to 30%!!!

Semisitting causes "fetal" and "maternal" obstruction, as in,

On p. 737: "Why labor sometimes stops...FETAL OBSTRUCTION: If your baby is
too large for your pelvis...a problem that is medically termed cephalopelvic
disproportion...

"MATERNAL CAUSES OF OBSTRUCTION: If you have a...disproportion of the bony
pelvis..." (!)

The baby may be too large and the mother may have a small pelvis...

But WHY would the OB senselessly close the pelvic outlet up to 30%?!

OBs like to "augment" labors that have stalled by chemically whipping the
uterus to contract...

BUT...On p. 744: An oxytocin/augmentation contraindication: "if it isn't
clear whether your baby will be able to fit through your pelvis..."

What about if the OB *closes* the birth canal up to 30%?!

On p. 747: "breech delivery...vaginally...your caregiver may have to use
forceps...it's possible for the baby's head to momentarily get stuck..."

Forceps and vacuum extractors are often used to PULL the baby through a
birth canal senselessly closed up to 30%.

I got these quotes from the 2004 Wiley eBook version of John and Ann's book.

According to the biography,

"John R. Sussman M.D. (New Milford, CT) is Chief of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at New Milford Hospital and an Assistant Clinical Professor at
the University of Connecticut School of Medicine..."
http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyT...764568604.html

As noted above, John is "president of the medical staff at New Milford
Hospital, where he founded and runs the Preparation for
Pregnancy seminars."
http://my.webmd.com/content/Biography/7/1756_53811.htm

John is admirably positioned to work change...

I hope John - who obviously knows about the 30% - will immediately put an
end to OBs closing birth canals at New Milford Hospital - and then work to
stop the bizarre practice throughout America and the world...

Sincerely,

Todd

SHARON and JOEL: You illustrate the birth canal closed up to 30% on pp.
719-722 of the 2004 edition of Ann and John's book. Please place a warning
on these illustrations in the future - or better - make new illustrations.
(I note your breech illustrations are upright.)

VISITING NURSES: I see from your website that you offer Pediatric Physical
Therapy (the PTs must work with you?)...

Again, some babies die, some babies are paralyzed, but most "only" have
their spines gruesomely wrenched when OBs knowingly close birth canals up to
30%...

Maybe VISITING NURSES could tell "prenatal women" that OBs knowingly close
birth canals up to 30% - and how EASY it is for them to allow their birth
canals to OPEN the "extra" up to 30%?

Mothers of babies who sustained birth injuries would probably also
appreciate this info.

Just a thought.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST...

Canadians and the FDA...

My thanks to Canadian Grandma Donna Young for forwarding me the URL for
Ann's Pregnancy Trivia Quiz.

Ann and Donna are Canadians...

I encourage EVERYONE (even Canadians!) to file an online report urging the
FDA to stop OBs from using obstetric tables to close birth canals up to 30%.

Here is my device adverse report (badly edited) at the FDA website...
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/script...FOI__ID=489897

NOTE: ANYONE can urge FDA to warn the public that OBs are using obstetric
tables to close birth canals up to 30%.

Go to: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/report/c...r/instruct.htm

I discuss my FDA medical device report in ACOG vs. Homebirth...
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/message/2528

Thanks for reading, everyone,

Sincerely,

Todd
