Because it would be a shame to let such an important bit of ephemera
vanish forever, I am reposting it in its illuminating entirety.

The most revealing detail was easily overlooked: Madonna denied reports
that she had contemplated adopting a black kid from Los Angeles before
discovering Africa.


After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, there was a scandal as
adoption agencies rushed to import babies from Russian and Romanian
orphanages for fat fees. Wealthy, childless Americans could not wait to
get their hands on white babies, even though many turned out to be
tragically damaged.


Locally, only black babies were available. But a black American is not
remotely as fashionable as a black African in these days of Bono's
strategic philanthropy and Brad and Angelina's trendsetting
baby-safaris.



The problem is that in the mature economy of a capitalistic society
there are far too many individuals with too much money and not enough
brains. This translates into irrational behavior by such individuals
as evidenced by the actions of those mentioned above and the many
other wealthy people who are chasing foreign babies for adoption as
like they go after foreign cars or foreign vacation villas. This is
more a problem of economics than anything else. That is why many of
the brightest minds in the history have advocated income
redistribution, aka socialism and communism, because they saw the
evils of having too many stupid individuals accumulating too much
money.

Conversely, if an individual had any brains to go along with his/her
millions of dollars he/she would undestand that if the good lord did
not make them fertile it's because *he was trying to send them a
message* (and that message, for those who are too dense, is: DON'T
HAVE CHILDREN!!!)
