"The slave trade became entrenched here following the end of the
Pequot War. This war nearly wiped the Pequot Indians out as a race and
the handful who survived the massacre at their fort near the present
town of Mystic, Conn., were sold into slavery in the Caribbean. Boats
that brought them to the West Indies came back loaded with sugar and
the first black slaves to "

The developement of slavery

"This remarkable increase in tobacco production demanded a a terrible
price in human exploitation, first of white servants and later of
black slaves."*4

The continued expansion of cash crops in the South was only
possible by a growth of the labour force. At first they solved this
problem by using white indentured servants. These were primarily
Englishmen who agreed to work for the colonists for a certain number
of years (usually 4-7 years), if the employer paid their fares to
America. Tobacco growers imported thousands of these white servants,
but it was not enough to feed the constant need for labor. This led to
a steadily increasing import of African slaves.
The first black slaves were imported to Virginia as early as
in 1619 by Dutch merchants, but we know little of these. It is known
though, that lifelong slavery existed in the Chesapeake region from
the 1640s. After 1650, the black slaves got more attractive than
indentured servants because they were less expensive. They could also
be forced to perform simple and repetative tasks, working in teams
under strict surveillance. The import and the reproduction among the
black slaves resulted in a steady growth in the slave population. In
1807, a law against import of black slaves was introduced, but this
had no serious impact on the size of the slavepopulation. The
offspring of slaves became automatically slaves themselves. In 1715,
black slaves comprised 24 percent of the population, up from less
than 5 percent in 1671.*6 The slavepopulation in Virginia counted
490,865 in 1860 - 30.7% of the total population."

It don't think the current black population of the entire country
today is equal to the ratio during those times.

For more see above.

This country was built on the nearly free labor of these and other
enslaved peoples, mostly indians who died under the whips of overseers
all too easily for the likes of the owners.

What you enjoy today, every bit of it, has its foundation in their
labors, for generation after generation.

Next time you, bobb, pass a black man on the street and have your
usual bigotted and often erroneous thoughts, bow your head in respect
and apology for what you can never make up for.

And they gave us:

And as you consider this consider also what it means when someone our
care about or your sorry self lives because of the man that developed
the blood plasma extraction and use techniques, or you don't get your
sorry ass riding your tricycle run over by an SUV in an intersection
because of the stop light invented by Morgan..the inventor of the Gas
Mask as well.

Each of those below invented originally or added to these fields and
