Chinese Accent?
The last time I bought a digital telephone answering machine, the guy
announcing the date and time after each messages had a strong Chinese accent. I should have kept the machine as a novelty A couple of days ago, I bought an electronic storybook (recites common English nursery rhymes) for a kid, and when I listened to it closely, I noticed a Chinese accent from the lady reciting the poems. I know these things may be manufactured in China, but has anybody else noticed a similar increase in recordings with a Chinese accent? |

They are usually the cheaply made toys from China. My parents would buy them at swap meets. One of them is a child on a rocking horse that rocks. It was one of DD's favorites for a long time. |

How much more does one have to pay these days for no accent? |

Chinese Accent?
Boliath wrote: No accent? How is that possible? What would it sound like? Good point. Accents are relative (which is the point you are trying to make, I think). As adults we learn to accept different accents at our workplace, etc. But I would not record my mother-in-law trying to sing a German nursery rhyme for a toy targeted at German kids. That would annoy the mainstream Germans. Not to mention the possiblility of kids picking up a foreign accent. With regard to the VTech toy, the accent is mild, but the lady sang "Old Macdonald Had a Farm" - "with a moo moo here, and a moo moo here" (the 2nd part should have been "with a moo moo *THERE*", and even the lyrics in the book read "THERE". Not trying to nitpick, but the Chinese lady did Old Macdonald an injustice |
