Woman used imaginary kid to con ex

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - One woman learned the hard way that if you make up
a child to scam your ex-husband out of thousands of dollars in phony
child support, you're going to prison.

Viola Trevino, 55, was sentenced Friday on 13 felony counts that
included fraud, medical fraud and perjury.

She was sentenced to 21 years in prison, but 15 years were suspended. So
Trevino will only serve six years.

It all started back in 1999 when Trevino created an imaginary child
named Stephanie.

Trevino admitted to falsifying birth records and a DNA test to bilk her
ex-husband, Steve Barreras, out of more than $26,000 in child support.

In a Dec. 2004 court hearing, a Mobile Blood Services employee was
accused of helping to falsify DNA samples.

The scam unraveled when a woman Trevino paid to borrow her granddaughter
to show the judge as her own, followed her into the court room.

Trevino pleaded guilty to the crimes in August. She was already serving
time for tax fraud.

"I never imagined that it would take what it's take to prove the non
existence of a child, and to get justice finally served," Barreras'
current wife Shelly Barreras said.

District Court Judge Pat Murdoch also ordered Trevino to pay more than
$14,000 in restitution. He laughed at Trevino when she apologized, and
said that the gesture was not heartfelt.

In Sept. 2007, a civil jury awarded Barreras $1.2 million in
compensation from Mobile Blood Services for its involvement.

There are no personal problems that cannot be solved when suitable
quantity & quality of high explosives is applied to the issue at hand.

She ought to stick around; she'll see a whole lot more of the unbelievable
atrocities that are taking place in the "child support" industry.

Or, as the ole' German saying goes, "with force, ALL things are possible".
